Steven W. Fournier

May 20, 1953 — June 26, 2025

Berlin, NH

Steven W. Fournier, 72, of Berlin, NH, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Thursday June 26, 2025 at the Androscoggin Valley Hospital. Steve considered himself a Berlin Boy – born in Berlin on May 20, 1953, he attended the local Catholic elementary school and graduated from Berlin High School in 1971. After high school, he attended Plymouth State University where he earned a BS in Education and later on a Masters in Mathematics. It was there he met his first wife and mother of his 3 daughters, B. Gail Fournier. After college, Steve moved around NH, teaching in various towns until he and his family settled in Belmont, NH. In Belmont, he started out as a math teacher and eventually became the Computer Coordinator for the Shaker Regional School District. He was also chairman of the math department. He was a favorite teacher and was dubbed “The Nerd of the Herd” by his many computer students. It was title he wore proudly. While teaching at BHS during the day, he also taught at the Lakes Region Community College (formerly known as Laconia Technical College) at night. He retired from BHS in 1994 for the first time and went to work as the Director of IT at the Lakes Region General Hospital. While working at LRGH, he also became active in Belmont town politics. He served as a member of the Shaker Regional School Board and also as the Town Moderator of Belmont. He returned to his job as a teacher at Belmont High School in 2004. Steven married the love of his life, Susan Huot Chaloux in 2011. He retired from BHS for a second time in 2015 and moved back to Berlin, NH to help take care of his elderly parents.

During his retirement, Steven and Sue enjoyed summering at Old Orchard Beach, ME and wintering in Winter Haven, FL. Once Sue passed in 2024, Steven returned to Berlin, NH. Over his lifetime, he enjoyed many hobbies. He loved to golf with his friends and fellow coworkers. He loved to sail on Lake Winnisquam and also motor around on his boat with his family, stopping at the Sand Bar in Gilmanton, NH to join the other boaters. He enjoyed riding through New Hampshire on his Gold Wing. He was an avid skier and loved to hit the slopes at Gunstock with his daughters. He was in a pool league and was an ardent ping pong player. He was a Red Sox fan who took his children on trips to Fenway. When he returned to Berlin, NH, he took up hunting. On one hunting trip, he killed two boars with one bullet. Most of all, Steve was a character who loved to talk and joke. He would always bring this energy to any gathering he went to.

We would like to think his proudest accomplishments were helping his three daughters become the successful women they are (a practice manager, a doctor, and a nurse practitioner) and becoming “Bumpy” to his 7 grandchildren and 4 step-grandchildren.

Family includes his daughters Nannette Pelletier (Ronnie) of New Milford, CT, Loreen Pirnie (Stephan) of North Kingston, RI and Barbara Dannielle Phelps (Matthew) of Portsmouth, RI; grandchildren Zachary Pelletier, Alexander Steven Pelletier, Reid Pirnie, Sage Pirnie, Eliza Phelps, Sienna Phelps and Maren Pirnie; his step daughters Jade Chaloux of Vernon, VT and Joy Chaloux of Milan, NH; step grandchildren Grace, Bella, Jack and Emily and a sister Loreen Evans (Jim) of Gaffney, SC. He was predeceased by his wife Susan (Huot) Fournier, his mother Phyllis Johnson Fournier, his father Walter Fournier and his older brother Richard Fournier.

Calling hours will be held on Saturday, July 12th at 10 AM followed by a service at 11:30AM at the Carriage House at Wilkinson-Beane-Simoneau-Paquette Funeral Home in Laconia, NH. A reception will follow at Hectors Fine Food and Spirits in Laconia, NH. His family will be wearing bright colors to celebrate his life—especially blue, his favorite color.

On Monday, July 14th, at 1pm, a graveside ceremony will be held at Calvary Cemetery in Berlin, NH.

In lieu of flowers, charitable donations may be made in Steve’s memory to start his granddaughter Sage’s Foundation for Childhood Dementia. https://gofund.me/15bb87db
