Mrs. Ruby M. Brannen, 91, formerly of Berlin, NH, passed away on February 22, 2020 surrounded by family in Dover, NH. She was born in Milan, NH on December 17, 1928, the daughter of Leo and Alice (Springer) Lapointe and was a lifelong resident of Berlin, NH.
Members of her family include three sons, William (Bill) Brannen and wife Vicky of Palm Beach Gardens, FL, Timothy Brannen and wife Norma of Dunbarton, NH, James Brannen and wife Josee of Dover, NH and one daughter, Nancy Brannen of Milan, NH, five grandchildren: Peter, Sean, Erin, Emily and Joseph (Joe), two great-grandchildren, and one brother Robert Lapointe of Cheshire, CT, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband of fifty-three years, Robert, her parents and a sister, Norma MacDougall.
Ruby graduated from Berlin High School with the class of 1947 and from Keene Teachers College with the class of 1951. She began her teaching career at Sunapee High School in Sunapee, NH and retired from teaching at Berlin High School in Berlin, NH in 1990.
Ruby was very involved in her community. In her lifetime, she was a member of the St. Kieran's Parish Council, North Country Educational Advisory Board, Berlin Vocational College Advisory Board, Berlin Area Vocational Advisory Board, St. Anne's Rehabilitation Proposal Review Committee for City of Berlin, Berlin High School Administrative Council, Coos County Family Health Advisory Board, American Association of Union City Women (AAUW), Past President of New Hampshire Vocational Home Economics Teachers Association, and Lifetime Member of the New Hampshire Retired Educators Association.
She also received several awards, which included: NH Home Economics Teacher of the Year, Fraternal Order of the Eagles Citizen Award, American Association of University Women Early Equity Award.
Friends and relatives are invited to call at the Bryant Funeral Home, 180 Hillside Ave., Berlin, NH on Friday, February 28, from 2-4 pm and 7-9 PM. Services will be held on Saturday, February 29, at 10 AM at Bryant Funeral Home in Berlin. Interment will take place at St. Kieran Cemetery.
