Roger "Pete" Villeneuve 88

November 2, 1937 - March 2026

He was a quiet man but loved to tease, he was funny, a loyal friend and a helper to family and friends over the years. Actually, his nickname was "Pit" throughout his early years up until the end of high school. Derived from "Pitou", a term of endearment given to him by his elder siblings. Served in the army, was stationed in Germany as a combat engineer and was honorably discharged after two years of service.

In 1970 he was hired as a firefighter for the city of Berlin NH. Throughout his 28 years of dedicated service, he never once complained about going to work. ft was truly a job he enjoyed not only because it was personally rewarding but because of his mates that became his second family and lifelong friends. He was also known as "popcorn Pete" because on his shift there was always a batch of popcorn to be enjoyed by all. He retired in 1998 as Captain of his shift. Moving to Errol NH after his retirement he took a part time job at the Umbagog State Park and it turned out to be his dream job lasting ten years. What was not to love, the lake, the wild life, helping and transporting the campers to their remote sites on the lake, working outdoors in a relaxed setting and once again making lasting friendships with the other park employees.

At home he was a jack of all trades, he took a camp and made it a home. Really enjoyed carpentry but disliked the finish work, he said that was his wife's job :-) When questioned about the results of some of his finished projects his reply was always "It'll do" and for the most part it did. He also enjoyed making jigsaw puzzles during the winter months and did the daily crossword puzzle in the newspaper ( not always with the correct answer}. He was never idle, enjoyed hunting with the boys, fishing, snowshoeing, skiing, kayaking the nearby rivers, lakes and ponds or just walking the trials outback during the winter months with his family and Maxx the dog. He loved all things pertaining to nature.

Later in his life he was diagnosed with frontal lobe atrophy a form of dementia that slowly took away his ability to do what he always enjoyed. Throughout the course of his disease, he never complained, was always compliant and grateful. He never totally forgot those closest to him, always knew his family and that he was home and that he was loved. We learned that illness doesn't separate you it brings you closer.

He leaves behind his wife Joan (Morrissette) his sons Peter (Lucie) and Paul and companion (Maria) and his two grandchildren Jacques and Melanie. Twenty-four nieces and nephews and many dear friends. He is predeceased by his brothers Norman, Larry, Richard and Paul and his sisters Germaine Buckovitch, Rita Villeneuve, Lucille Desjardin and Lorraine Bisson.

We wish to thank family, friends and neighbors that called, visited and supported us throughout this phase of his life. There are no words to express our gratitude for all they have done for us. We can only forward the same blessings to others that we were so fortunate to receive.

Per his wishes there will be no calling hours or service. Donations in Pete's memory may be made to the Errol Rescue Squad PO Box 64 Errol, NH 03579 or to a charity of your choice. The Bryant Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
