Obituary

Richard O “Rupert” Poirier, 95, passed away on October 7, 2026 at St. Vincent de Paul Rehabilitation and Nursing Center. He was born on July 28, 1931 the son of the late Joseph A. and Yvonne G. (Gagnon) Poirier and was a lifelong resident. He graduated from Notre Dame High School in 1950.

Following high school, he served with the US Army from 1952-1954 and served in the Korean War. On June 25, 1960 he married Priscilla (Gagnon) and together they raised three children, Richard (Ricky), Rachel and Roland (Rollie). He was an active member of St Anne Church of Good Shepherd Parish, a member of the VFW and dedicated several years to the Berlin Youth Hockey program, coaching both of his sons' teams. He and his wife enjoyed many years camping at Old Orchard Beach, taking bus tours and caring for their grandson, Alex.

Rupert spent his career as a Carpenter. Known for his excellent finish work due to his patience and meticulous attention to detail. He worked for various companies then started Poirier Carpentry with his nephew Butch.

Besides his parents he was predeceased by his brothers Normand “Husky” Poirier, Jean-Paul “JP” Poirier, Raymond Poirier and Roland Poirier. Sister-in-Law Jeannette and husband Richard Laflamme, brother in laws, Rene Poirier and Paul Savard.

Family includes his wife of 66 years, Priscilla (Gagnon); his children Richard “Ricky” Poirier, Rachel Huot and husband Robert “Byrd” and Roland “Rollie” Poirier and wife Paula; grandson Alex Poirier all of Berlin. Sister-in-laws Priscilla Poirier, Cecile Poirier and Jeannine Poirier all of Berlin; Sister-in-laws Doris Poirier, Theresa Savard, Pauline and husband Joseph “Eddie” Leclerc and Jackie and Don Blair; several nieces, nephews, cousins and special dog Zoe.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, October 13th at 1:00pm at St. Anne Church of Good Shepherd Parish with interment following at St. Kieran Cemetery. At his request there will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Good Shepherd Parish, 151 Emery St, Berlin, NH.
