Berlin

Normand A. Richard, 91, of Berlin, NH passed away peacefully on June 17, 2025 from complications related to a fall. Norm was born on December 27, 1933 in Berlin, NH to Leopold and Albertine Richard.

Raised and educated in Berlin, he graduated from Notre Dame High School, Class of 1952. He enlisted in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Fort Lewis, Washington. Norm married his high school sweetheart, Ella Brodeur, on July 13, 1954 at St. Joseph’s Church in Berlin. After basic training she joined him in Washington. He returned to Berlin after active duty and worked for the paper mill for 44 years, retiring in 1995. He also worked at Morneau & Sons. Together Norm and Ella raised 5 children. They were his pride and joy, as were his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Norm enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman. One of greatest pleasures was having a camp at Success Pond and sharing many good times there with his family and friends. He played hockey for the Berlin Maroons and also played baseball. He put many miles on his cross-country skis, often accompanied by “The Mick.” Norm coached many children in both hockey and baseball throughout the years and always lit up when he ran into them, sharing stories and memories. Norm was an enthusiastic Montreal Canadiens and Notre Dame sports fan. He enjoyed picking berries (for hours) and took great pleasure in winning cribbage games. When he was able, he loved traveling to any and all events that his grandchildren were involved in.

Norm was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Lucien Richard, OMI and sister, Rita Leclerc and brother-in-law Raymond Leclerc. He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Ella, and his children, Mike (Candy) Richard (Kristopher & Roxanne Richard, Gary & Heidi Richard, Scott), Marc (Terry) Richard, Rachel (Mark) Roper (Lucas, Marcus), Susan (Bruce) Plummer (Abby & Jeremy LaBombard, Alex), Lisa (Don) Picard (Emily, Libby).
