Norman A. Roberge, 67, of Berlin, passed away peacefully at this home on May 8, 2024 surrounded by his family. Norm was born in Berlin, NH on January 2, 1957 the son of the late Maurice and Doris (Roy) Roberge. He graduated from Berlin High School class of 1974 and went on to attend mechanics school, then worked at James River Corp. until 1981 when he was injured in a motorcycle accident that left him a quadriplegic. Despite this, Norm never let his disability hinder him. He was always involved with kids programs in Berlin, including working the summer programs at the Rec Dept and was a baseball and basketball coach. He attended Plymouth State University where he obtained a Bachelor's Degree in Education, going on to teach at Milan Village School for more than 20 years. Norm was an active hunter and fisherman, enjoying his UTV and the independence it gave him to adventure out in the woods. He enjoyed racing his RC cars, even building a track in the back yard, and also built Lego's and eventually starting a Lego league at the Milan school. In his retirement, he wrote and published his autobiography, “NORM, Determination, Perseverance, Attitude”. He reflected on his life, the challenges of living in a wheelchair but wanted to inspire others to not let their physical disability define them and to live life to the fullest as demonstrated by his life story. Norm had tremendous sense of humor and has had a lasting impact on so many who knew him. He will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years Jeanne Roberge of Berlin; a daughter Jessica Couto and husband Joe of Tampa, FL; a son Nathan Roberge and wife Allison of Gorham; four grandchildren Emma, Luke, Anastasia and Natanya; his brother Leo Roberge and wife Elaine of Berlin; sister-in-law Denise Roberge of Jackson; mother and father-in-law Jean-Paul "JP" and Cecile Poirier of Berlin; siblings-in-law Sylvia Ramsey, Donald Poirier, David and Janet Poirier, Collette and Bill Aurand; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and countless friends. He was predeceased by brother Donald Roberge and brother-in-law Robert "Beef" Ramsey.
