Muriel L. Comeau

October 8, 1928 — November 14, 2023

Gorham, NH

Muriel L. Comeau, 95, of Gorham, NH, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 14, 2023 at her home after months of declining health. She was born in Berlin on October 8, 1928 the daughter of the late Isaie and Marie Jeanne (Frechette) Roy.

For many years she was employed by and later co-owned Kentucky Fried Chicken, where she was affectionately known as the "Chicken Lady.” Muriel often said, "I've been blessed and couldn't have done it without my children and my Faith.” When asked about her legacy, her answer was quick and simple, ”My greatest accomplishment is that I was able to keep my family together,  under the same roof, while raising six children as a single parent.”

She is survived by five children: Lise Gilbert and husband Bill of Dallas, GA, Cecile Landry of Berlin, Therese Cote and husband Ron of Berlin, Nina Coulombe and husband Robert of Berlin and Edmond Marceau and wife Dorothy of Exeter, NH; grandchildren: Gina Carter, Matthew Gilbert, Jay, Ryan, and Jerry Landry, Lance and Shane Bartashevich, Eric Cote, Sara Coulombe, Ed and Corey Marceau; several great-grandchildren; her siblings, Violette Grondin and husband Norman of Berlin, Maurice Roy and wife Caroline of Cuttingsville, VT, and Edmond Roy and wife Jeanine of Gorham; a sister-in-law, Marilyn Roy of Berlin; many nieces, nephews, friends and great neighbors.

The family extends their appreciation to the employees of North Country Home Health and Hospice for their care and support of Muriel. Their support and the loving care provided by family members provided a peaceful environment for Muriel to pass into the loving arms of our Lord. She will be missed by many.

Muriel was predeceased by her husbands Edmond Marceau and George Comeau, a daughter Marguerite Vachon, a great-granddaughter Bellamy Marceau, and her brothers, Midas, Laurier, Lionel and Noel, and sisters Rita (John) Turco and Therese (Roland) Roy.

At Muriel’s request, services will be private. In lieu of donations, Muriel asks her family and friends to perform a good deed for someone in need in her memory and to remember that “I love you.” Arrangements are entrusted to the Bryant Funeral Homes.
