Marie Powell Moores passed away after a long illness on July 23, 2019 at her home in Huntington Commons, Kennebunk, Maine. Marie was born in Danville, Virginia on July 20, 1926 the daughter of James and Cordelia Powell. She lived her early years in Drexel, North Carolina attending the Drexel public schools and graduated Drexel High School in 1944. After high school she moved to work in Washington, DC for the Veterans Administration. Marie was very athletic, participating in all available sports during her school years and became an avid golfer in her later years. She became the club champion golfer for her division. While in Washington, DC she met and later married Randolph Moores of Bangor, Maine. They married in 1946 while Mr. Moores was attending the University of Maine. After graduation from college, they moved out of state eventually settling down in Berlin, NH where Mr. Moores finished his career. Marie leaves her husband Randolph Moores of Kennedbunk, ME; a son Stephen Moores and his wife Gina of Hornell, New York; son Lawrence Moores of South Portland, Maine. Her son Robert and daughter Christine both passed away before her. In addition, she leaves a brother Harold Powell and late wife Delene of Greensboro, North Carolina. Her brothers Elbert Powell, Bernard Powell and William Powell all predeceased her. She also leaves a daughter-in-law Catherine Moores of Westbrook, Maine. Marie has seven grandchildren and many great grandchildren. Marie was a member of the First Baptist Church in Berlin, NH and performed volunteer work at Androscoggin Valley Hospital in Berlin. Her other interests were knitting, crocheting, puzzle solving and bowling. Her greatest joy was watching her children and grandchildren grow and develop. Services will be held at the Bryant Funeral Home, 180 Hillside Ave., Berlin, NH on Wednesday, July 31, 2019 at 1:00 PM. Visiting hours will be held from 12:00 noon to 1:00 PM, prior to the service. Those desiring to do so may make donations to the First Baptist Church, 79 High Street, Berlin, NH 03570. Messages of condolence may be shared online at www.bryantfuneralhome.net.
