John G. Hartford, 83, of Gorham, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, July 5, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family.

Born in Berlin on March 29, 1943, John was the son of the late John B. Hartford and Theodora "June" (Clark) Hartford. He spent most of his life in the Berlin-Gorham area, where he built a life centered on faith, family, and service to others.

John was employed at TOP Furniture from 1968 to 1985 and faithfully served for many years as an elder of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses in Gorham. His faith was an important part of his life and was reflected in the kindness, compassion, and generosity he showed to everyone he met.

John will be remembered as a truly caring and kind man with a heart of gold. He was a devoted husband, a loving father, and a proud grandfather whose greatest joy came from spending time with his family. He was always there with a listening ear, sound advice, and a wonderful sense of humor that could brighten even the most difficult days. His steady guidance, unconditional love, and quiet strength touched countless lives and will be deeply missed, especially by his children and grandchildren.

A gifted storyteller, John had a remarkable way of bringing memories to life. Whether sharing family history, humorous tales, or lessons learned through life's experiences, his stories captivated those around him and will be treasured by generations to come.

Music was another of John's greatest passions. He played for many years with the Up-Country Band and found immense joy in playing his guitar throughout his life. Even in his final days, he continued to play, sharing his love of music with those around him. He instilled that same appreciation for music and guitar playing in his children and grandchildren, leaving them with a gift that will continue to connect them to him for years to come.

John is survived by his beloved wife, Shirley (Merrill) Hartford of Gorham, New Hampshire; his children, Vicky L. Quint and her fiancé, Randy, of Albany, New Hampshire; John B. Hartford of Conway, New Hampshire; Wanda Hartford of Easton, New Hampshire; April Boyd of Florida; Ronald Snyder and his wife, Amelia, of Berlin, New Hampshire; Brenda Lambert and her husband, Matthew, of Berlin, New Hampshire; Candy Malinowski and her husband, Jason, of Easton, Pennsylvania; and JoAnn Fitts and her husband, Christopher, of Upton, Massachusetts. He also leaves behind 17 cherished grandchildren, many great-grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.

In addition to his parents, John was predeceased by his brother, Kenny C. Hartford.

John's legacy lives on in the love he shared, the faith he demonstrated, the music he passed on, and the countless lives he touched through his kindness. He will forever be remembered with love, gratitude, and deep admiration.
