John H. Donaldson

John H Donaldson (79 or as he would tell you, “39 years old for the second time plus one”) of Berlin NH, passed away on Monday July 31, 2023 (147 days before Christmas) surrounded by close family. He was born on April 1,1944 in Berlin NH and is the son of Joseph and Marguerite Donaldson. In a beautiful love story that spanned over five decades, John married his childhood sweetheart, Charlotte F. Dube. Together they shared a love that only grew stronger with time, celebrating 57 remarkable years of marriage. John and Charlotte had four children: Mark, Kristine, Matthew, and Nathan. Their children, in addition to their loved ones David, Tracey, Brian, Amy, and Vanessa, brought immeasurable joy and fulfillment into their lives, and John's dedication to his family was unwavering. He was a proud Grandfather of nine grandchildren: Noah, Jack, Clare, Maeve, Nolan, Ella, Ethan, Matie and Allie all of whom brought a sparkle to his eyes and smile to his face.

John had a unique and special ability that endeared him to many - he would keep track of, and let the world know, how many days were left until Christmas. Many times people would stop him at the grocery store or the hallways at school to find out how many days were left. His joy for the holiday season was infectious, and he delighted in sharing the anticipation and excitement with others. He understood that the true essence of the season was about being together with his beloved family.

After retiring as an Administrator of the Berlin Public School system, John embarked on a new chapter in his life as a substitute teacher. John cherished the countless interactions he had with students, watching them blossom and succeed. He celebrated their achievements with pride, and his heart swelled with joy as he witnessed their growth and accomplishments.

John always loved the beach and enjoyed summers at his beloved camp in Old Orchard Beach, Maine. We will always remember his magnificent smile, heartfelt laugh, love of coffee every morning and afternoon, and loyal devotion to New England sports teams.

Friends and family are invited to attend calling hours at Bryant Funeral Home, 180 Hillside Ave., Berlin on Sunday August 6th between the hours of 6:00pm-8:00pm.

The Funeral services to honor the life of John H Donaldson will be held Monday August 7, 2023 at 10:00am at Good Shepherd’s Parrish in Berlin NH. During this service, we will come together to celebrate the wonderful memories and the lasting impact he made on the lives of those around him.
