Obituary

Jacqueline M. (Marois) Morin passed away on January 19, 2026 at the Androscoggin Valley Hospital, at the age of 92, surrounded by her family. Jackie (as she was known to her friends and family) was proud to have been born tenth in a family of twelve (six boys and six girls) on January 24, 1933 to Elzear & Marie Anna (Toussignant) Guilmette on Jasper Street in Berlin. Her mother also took in several foster children because apparently twelve is not enough and Jackie enjoyed having the additional brothers and sisters for a short time. In her youth she did babysitting and house cleaning for her neighbors and was most proud of having taken care of Bobby Haggart as an infant. When she was sixteen, she worked for J.J. Newberry and after graduating high school worked in the Brown Company mail room and their switchboard.

She married Eugene Marois in 1953 and together they raised four children until his tragic death in 1963 at Cascade Mill at the age of thirty-one. Left alone to raise four young children she persevered with help from family and friends and her strong will. During this time, she took in children to babysit in her home as well as office jobs at City Hall and a local chiropractor.

She married her second husband, Romeo Morin, in 1978 joining his family of two boys with her two youngest boys. After their children moved on, she took in other children to babysit in her home. In 1986 Jackie became a volunteer at the then known as St. Vincent De Paul Thrift Shop on Berlin’s east side. She developed the basement into a thriving outlet for bargain hunters and was able to give assistance to many people in need as this was her passion. Eventually her husband joined her and worked there until his passing in 2017. She continued in this volunteer job, often working more than forty hours a week until abruptly forced out at the age of ninety.

She will be fondly remembered for her spotless housekeeping, as you could literally eat off of her floors, her ability to thrive with minimal financial means, her love and caring of children and her giving nature to the extent of going without herself for the well-being of others.

Jackie is survived by her children (spouse) Diane Light (Kathleen Remund) of Madison Wisconsin, Gene Marois (Rita) of Berlin, Donald Marois (Catriena) of Oxford Maine, David Marois (Lynda Roberts) of Success Pond, stepchildren Claude Morin (Ann) of Milan and Paul Morin (Lisa) of Berlin, her brother Lucien Guilmette (Louise) of Concord, brother-in-law Leo Vezina of Connecticut, grandchildren Erin, Jessie, Rachel, Karie, Kellie, Jennie, Kami, McKayla, Zachary, Alyssa, Mary, Abigail, Melanie and Matthew, fourteen greatgrandchildren and three great greatgrandchildren.

She was predeceased by her husband Eugene Marois, husband Romeo Morin, parents Elzear and Marie Anna Guilmette, siblings Roland, Albert (Cecile), Paul (Rose), Robert (Yvette) and Ernest (Shirley) Guilmette, Blanche (Wellington) Cushman, Florence (Maurice) Jutras, Margaret (Al) Sherman, Jeannette (Lionel) Roy and Therese Vezina.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, January 28, 2026 at 10am at St. Anne Church of Good Shepherd Parish, 345 Pleasant St., Berlin. The family will receive relatives and friends on Tuesday, January 27th from 4-6pm at the Bryant Funeral Home, 180 Hillside Ave., Berlin. Interment will take place at Mt. Calvary Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers and donations please perform an act of kindness for a friend, family or even a stranger as this would best memorialize who she was.
