Giuseppe "Joe" Amato, 85, passed away unexpectedly on May 5, 2026 at Androscoggin Valley Hospital surrounded by his family.

Joe was born on November 3, 1940, in Biancavilla, Sicily, the son of the late Placido and Alfina (Neri)Amato.

Born and raised in Sicily, Joe carried with him throughout his life the strong values of family, hard work, and love. In 1971, he married the love of his life, Anna, and together they moved from Sicily to Lawrence, Massachusetts, to build a future filled with hope and opportunity. Together they created a loving home centered around family, tradition, sacrifice, and devotion to one another.

Joe was a man of quiet strength, generosity, and deep loyalty. He believed family was life’s greatest blessing, and he demonstrated that every day through his hard work, guidance, and unconditional love. Whether through shared meals, stories, laughter, or simply being present, he created memories and traditions that his family will cherish forever.

Joe also found great joy in life’s simple pleasures. He loved gardening and took pride in caring for his yard and growing things with patience and dedication. He also enjoyed hunting, appreciating the peace of the outdoors and the time spent sharing those experiences with his children and grandchildren.

Those who knew Joe will remember his warm smile, his deep love for his family, and the pride he carried for both his Sicilian roots and the family he built. His love, guidance, and traditions will continue to live on through the generations he leaves behind.

He leaves behind his beloved wife, Anna; his children, Dino Amato and his wife Katie of Berlin, Freddie Amato and his wife Jaimie of Berlin and Giuseppe "Joe" Amato and his wife Liz of Berlin; his cherished grandchildren, Kaylee and her husband Keith, Alfio "AJ" and his wife Sydney, Giuseppe Paul "Joe", Giuseppe "Joey", Antonio, Nicolas "Nico", Eliana, Dino Jr and Annagrace; and his treasured great-grandchildren, Carl, Harrison, and Sofia. He is also survived by his brothers, Alfio Amato and wife Diana of Methuen, MA and Anthony Amato and wife Diane of Methuen MA, along with many nieces, nephews and extended family both here and in Sicily.
