Gishlaine (Peloquin) Bisson, 88, passed away peacefully on September 18, 2025, at Androscoggin Valley Hospital of heart disease, with her daughters by her side. She was born on December 31, 1936 in Coaticook, PQ, Canada, to the late Ferrier and Irene (Arsenault) Peloquin. On September 18, 1959, she married her soulmate, Leonce Bisson.
Gishlaine, lovingly known as GiGi to friends and family, was fearlessly independent, daring, and a free-spirited soul, despite being legally blind since birth. After her wedding, she immediately moved to the United States. Blind and not knowing English, she was determined to have a family and a happy life. She accepted her disability, never using it as an excuse or reason to feel sorry for herself. Being blind was not without its challenges, but did, at times, create hilarious situations that her family will always cherish and reminisce fondly over.
GiGi was very social, and easily made friends. She had great respect for and deeply valued all her friendships. Her very best friend was her sister, Nicole. A visit with Nicole was a guaranteed overnight giggle-fest with a whole tin of Wise potato chips and bottles of Coca Cola, and also included lots of song and dance. GiGi was a loving wife and a caring mother and grandmother who provided a loving, spotless home. While raising toddlers was a definite challenge, she was inventive – her solution was to tie bells to their shoelaces, figuring a toddler could not stay still. She lived life with an unwavering, uncompromised faith in God. Her faith was her lifeline and support throughout her life.
GiGi is survived by her daughters Joanne Roy and husband Peter, and Monique Martin and husband Tommy, all of Berlin, NH; her grandchildren, Daniel Roy and wife Kristen of Ashland OR, Luke Roy of Berlin, NH, and Nicole Martin of Berlin, NH; great-grandchildren Gracelyn Martin-Harrison, Mayvis Martin, Lionel Roy, and Dawson Roy.; her brother-law, Gaetan Bilodeau; and niece Sylvie Peloquin and nephews Matthieu Peloquin and David Bilodeau. She is predeceased by her parents, her husband, Leonce, and all her siblings, Pierre, Daniel, and Luc Peloquin, and Nicole Bilodeau and Carol Gaudet, as well as by her nephew, Marc Peloquin.
The family would like to graciously thank the entire staff at St Vincent for not only providing excellent care, but for being her loving friends. GiGi loved you all.
