Ernest E. "Brother" Peabody

August 23, 1935 — January 17, 2020

Ernest E. “Brother” Peabody, 84, passed away on January 17, 2020 after a long illness, two days after his wife Lillian L. Peabody. Ernest was born in Milan, NH on August 23, 1935 to Marion and Raymond Peabody. He was raised in Milan, NH by his mother and stepfather Kenneth Douglass. He graduated from Berlin High School and served in Korea with the US Army. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church.

He played baseball in high school and for the Milan Men’s League. He retired from James River Paper Company after 40+ years of service. He was an avid outdoors person enjoying hunting, fishing and vegetable and floral gardening. He had a lifelong passion for the Boston Red Sox and Boston Bruins.

Ernest had a kind and gentle soul. The most important thing to him was his family. He married the love of his life Lillian L. Lowe in 1962 and talked about his love for her until the end of his life. He was a devoted father and was always very involved with his children and enjoyed reading, playing games, helped with homework and shared his passion for fishing, hunting, walking in the woods and gardening with them all. He passed on his love of dogs to his children.

In retirement, Ernest walked nearly every single day and became known for picking up trash, trimming bushes, pulling weeds, mowing the park, shoveling the walking bridge and was awarded the 1st annual Berlin volunteer of the year award. He was known by many in the community and would stop and talk with anybody on his route.

Ernest was predeceased by his wife Lillian, parents and brothers: Ronald Peabody, Robert Douglass, Jimmy Peabody and Carl Peabody. He is survived by his children Cyndi Paulin and husband Mark, Ken Peabody and partner Sarah Sember, Chris Peabody and wife Diana, Jennifer Charron and husband Steve; grandchildren: Matthew Paulin and wife Emily, Olivia (Paulin) Carvalho & husband Aaron, Mike Charron and fiancé Michaela Roberts, Heather Charron and partner Ben Lacasse, Aaron Peabody & wife Liz, Amanda Peabody; great grandchildren: Rowan Charron and Calvin Paulin and his brother Russell Douglass.

The family is forever grateful to the army of people (friends, family, strangers, neighbors, police, fire and public works personnel) who watched over him as his dementia progressed making sure he made it home safely from his daily walks and adventures to tend to the neighborhood.
