Emile J Tremblay

Emile Joseph Tremblay, 98, Berlin, passed away on Thursday, March 19, 2020 at the VA Hospice in West Palm Beach, Florida. He was born on April 19, 1921 in Berlin to Isidore and Imelda (Boucher) Tremblay. Emile attended Catholic Schools.



Emile entered the US Army on August 4, 1942 and served with the 36th Texas Infantry Division until his discharge on July 10, 1945. He was awarded the Purple Heart. Emile married Yolande Veilleux on June 16, 1951. He worked at Brown Company/James River for nearly 40 years as a truck driver and later became a mason apprentice. He was a lifelong resident of Berlin and would winter in Florida from 1981 - 2017



Emile enjoyed Fishing, hunting, gardening, snowmobiling, ATV, and loved spending time at his camp on Success Pond. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and Fraternal Order of Eagle. In June of 2012, at the age of 91, nearly 70 years after his WWII experience, he retraced his wartime service with his daughter Jeannette, granddaughter Amy and her husband Glen Hollingworth, spending a month in Italy and France. He was awarded the French Legion of Honor from the General Counsel of France on October 3, 2014 at the State House in Concord NH. He accepted this award in honor of all the men who fought for the freedom of the French citizens.



Emile is survived by his wife, Yolande Veilleux Tremblay of Berlin, three daughters, Jeannette Roslie of Port St. Lucie Florida and husband Terry; Doris Burns of Bedford NH and husband Dave; Louise LaCourse of Northfield NH and husband Ken of Northfield, NH, five grandchildren: Lori Rowell of Concord NH; Amy Hollingworth of Bedford NH; Jake Gingras of Salem NH; Andy Burns of Oviedo FL; and Emily Roberge of Manchester NH; five great grandchildren: Natalee Rowell and Tanner Rowell of Concord NH; Ella Hollingworth of Bedford NH; Zoe Gingras of Salem NH and Bryce Burns of Oviedo Florida, a sister Claire Thibeault of Berlin, and sister-in-law Gilberte (Cloutier) Tremblay, as well as several nieces and nephews.



He is predeceased by ten siblings, Marie Jeanne Tremblay, Sister of Presentation, Joseph O. Tremblay, Marie Anna Fournier, Florence Labbe, Rosaire Tremblay, Therese Poulin, Ernest Tremblay, Marie Marguerite Tremblay, Annette Bergeron, Archille Tremblay.



A memorial mass at St. Anne Church of Good Shepherd Parish and interment at NH State Veterans Cemetery will be announced for July pending the lifting of restrictions on gatherings.
