Ellen Grace Ramsay, 66 of Berlin passed away unexpectedly at home.

She was predeceased by her parents; Richard H. Ramsay Jr & Janet (Crowell) Ramsay, brothers; Richard Ramsay III & William Ramsay, sister Susan Ramsay, brother-in-law Michael Domino, as well as many cherished friends and her most-beloved German Shepard, Sasha.

Ellen was born on September 10th, 1959 in Hampton, VA. As a proper military-brat, her early childhood was defined by her father's military postings - living on various bases in Virgina, Louisiana, and Spain. When she was 10, her father retired from the USAF and the family returned to Berlin. Where she graduated from Berlin High School in 1977. She received 2 degrees from WMCC (then known as the Voc Tech/NHCTC), first in 1978 then again in 1998.

Ellen spent many years working for Big Apple Stores before she returned to college, and remained friends with many of her regular customers for years after leaving.

After graduating in 1998, she began working for Fraiser Papers in their IT department, until the mills closure in 2003 .

After the mill closed, Ellen moved to North Carolina and worked for Time Warner Cable. In 2014, she retired early and took to the road with her best friend, her much beloved German Shepard, Sasha. She and Sasha traveled the country in a camper van, living in campgrounds, moving around as the wind took them. She spent much of her time in the Arizona desert, California, Texas and South Dakota. She worked odd jobs seasonally, mainly to meet new people and make new memories. She worked at a small store near Custer State Park in South Dakota, North Dakota sugar beet harvesting, and even worked a vendor booth at the Burning Man music festival.

In November 2016 Ellen suffered a severe stroke while at a rest stop in Tennessee. This incident left her with limited mobility, ultimately ending her travels. She yearned for life on the road every single day afterward. Besides travel Ellen also enjoyed genealogy, a hobby she inherited from her mother and that ignited a love of history. She enjoyed planting gardens, reading, raising chickens and online shopping.

Ellen is survived by her two children; Michael Ramsay of Milan and Melissa Lannon of Shelburne. Three grandchildren; Mariah (Ramsay) Couch and husband Jeff of Berlin, Emma Jean Wixon and Liam Wixon of Shelburne. Two great-grandsons; Michael & Lucien. Siblings; Elizabeth (Ramsay) Domino, Thomas Ramsay and wife Carolyn, John Ramsay and partner Sheila, and Frank Ramsay and wife Keri, and other extended family members and life-long friends.

Instead of sending flowers, plant some wildflowers, perform a random act of kindness, go for a ride in the backwoods, or curl up and read that book that’s been collecting dust. Do something that makes you happy. Honor her adventure, by feeding your own.

A small graveside service will take place at a later date. The Bryant Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Online condolences may be shared at www.bryantcares.com.
