Barbara A. Roy

December 4, 1950 — May 28, 2025

Berlin, NH

On Wednesday evening 5/28/2025 we said goodbye to our dear Barbara. She passed away suddenly from complications of a quickly progressing end stage illness which surprised the whole family.

Barbara was a beloved partner, sister(in-law), aunt, daughter, niece, friend to many, and one of the best dog moms around. She was a gatherer of people either as host of wine club, book club, or her famous holiday parties surrounded by her nativity collection. There was always a place around the pool table and an open bar for loved ones and dear friends. She was fiercely loyal to her family, often the launch pad for new arrivals to Dallas until they got on their feet, and a support to Ma and Pa Roy in their later years.

She was particularly passionate about women and girls’ health and reproductive rights, and she was never afraid to speak her mind about causes that mattered to her. In her professional life Barb was first and foremost and English teacher at Berlin High School and the American Indian Center of Dallas. She worked at Girl's Club, Planned Parenthood, Girl's Inc and Dallas Can Academy. In most of these jobs her main goal was fundraising for non-profit charities as an NSFRE certified fundraiser.

She had a sharp and bright intellect and was always up for a hearty political debate! She loved words and literature, art and theatre, also music from her Franco and Irish American heritage. Two of her favorite places in the world were the Texas Hill Country and the Coast of Maine.

As our friend Tony Brogan said, “Our toast to Barbara, long live independent thinkers.”

Pierre's Rules for Engaging in Discussion or Debate with Barbara:

1) Don't ask for her opinion unless you really want to hear it!

2) Have ALL your facts at hand!

3) Be prepared to lose and be humiliated!

4) Repeat first three steps.

As we gather together as a family we have been a little overwhelmed by phone calls of the most sincere condolences. We would ask for now that phone calls wait until a later point in time. We are so grateful to receive messages here and we will convey them to Pierre and family.

To friends and family, we thank you for your ongoing love and support and for your priceless presence in her life!

Any of you wishing to make a donation in her memory can do so on the St Kieren's Center for the Performing and Visual Arts, one of her passions in Berlin where she served on the Board.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date.

Arrangements are entrusted to Bryant Funeral Homes & Crematory, Berlin and Gorham. Memories and condolences may be shared online at www.bryantfuneralhome.net.
