Winston E. Emery

Mr. Winston E. Emery, 93, formerly of 1119 West Milan, Road, West Milan, NH passed away on Monday April 13, 2009 at the Country Village Center in Lancaster, NH. He was born in Northumberland, NH on September 10, 1915 the son of Jerry W. and Katherine (Farwell) Emery and has lived in the Stark, Dummer, Milan area all of his life. He graduated from Berlin High School in 1933 and UNH in 1937 with a degree in Civil Engineering. He was a self-employed farmer and was a well-known land surveyor, responsible for re-establishing the Kilkenny town line that was destroyed in the big forest fire of 1903 and also marked the boundaries of other towns in Coos County. He also worked for the Gorham Water Works, helping lay the water line from Icy Gulch. He was an engineer on the construction of the Berlin Airport, was a selectman in Milan for a number of years, taught school in Gorham and Errol, served on the Board of Directors of the Connecticut Valley Dairy Association and was a member of several government farm related committees. Members of the family include 2 daughters Sarah Cordwell and husband Eugene of West Dummer, NH and Rebecca Mullins of West Milan, NH; 1 son John Emery and wife Kathy of Chesterville, ME; 12 grandchildren-Rebecca Boutin, Ruth Dandeneau, Dana Cordwell, Nancy Cordwell, Kim Landry, Daniel Cordwell, Martha Glover, Andrew Mullins, Mary Tichy, Debbie Major, Susan Snow and Mathew Emery; 25 great-grandchildren- Meredith, Sally, Sarah, Rachel, Nathan, Nicholas, Abby, Karly, Arthur, Trevor, Katherine, Moriah, Solomon, Eugene, Mary Elizabeth, William, Sheinalee, Jonathan, Anthony, Samantha, Alexandria, Jessie, Morgan, Jillian and Adrianna; cousins and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife Margaret (French) Emery, a brother, Richard, and a sister, Kathleen. There will be no services. The Bryant Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
