William C Harper

William C. "Bill" Harper of Dublin Street, Gorham passed away Thursday afternoon (December 19, 2013) at Androscoggin Valley Hospital in Berlin with his family by his side following a period of declining health. He was 79.

Born on December 29, 1933 in Brooklyn, NY, he was the son of Lew C. and Catherine (Jaeger) Harper. Bill grew up in Brooklyn and was a graduate of Lafayette High School.

He enlisted in the US Marine Corps and served in the Korean War. He was a member of the Gorham American Legion and the Berlin VFW Post.

Bill became familiar with the area during family vacations and then chose to move to Gorham in 1976.

He was employed by Bayside Fuel Company in Brooklyn, NY for many years. He was also self employed as a locksmith and also worked security for Bass Shoes and Rich's Department Store.

He enjoyed the times he spent with his grandchildren and he also enjoyed riding his Harley and going on motorcycle trips.

He leaves his longtime companion of 31 years, Rachel Hebert of Gorham; family members Roland Lachance of Gorham, Dave Lachance of Berlin and Patti Stolte of Shelburne, two grandchildren: Kyle Lachance and Karyssa Lachance both of Shelburne; a cousin Peter Popp and his wife Dorothy of Short Hills, NJ, several brother in laws and sister in laws, many nieces, nephews, close friends and his furry friends Noey and Bruschi.

A graveside service will be held in the spring at Mt. Hayes Cemetery in Gorham.

There are no calling hours.
