Thomas Pickford, 73, of Berlin, passed away on Wednesday October 2, 2019. Tom was born in Berlin on October 15, 1945 the son of Clarence and Amelia (Mauro) Noyes and attended parochial schools; he graduated from Berlin High School in 1963. He graduated from Maine Central Institute in 1964. He also attended Southern Connecticut College and later graduated from Ricker College in Houlton, ME in 1969 with a BA in History. While at Ricker, Tom belonged to Phi Gamma Omicron fraternity and played basketball for four years for the Ricker College Bull Dogs. He taught Social Studies at Berlin Junior High School for 37 years and had also served as the Chairman of the Social Studies Department. Tom coached both basketball and football. After retiring from Berlin Junior High School in 2006, he was a substitute teacher in the Gorham School System. He was a member of the Junior Chamber of Commerce for a number of years and belonged to the Berlin Lions Club, the Knights of Columbus, was a past member of the St. Kieran Parish council, the Chairman of the Berlin Recreation Department commission, President of the Babe Ruth League and also of the Girls Softball League. During the summers, he worked as a delivery person for White Mountain Distributors. Tom also worked for C. E. T. A. and was the local Director for New Hampshire Job Training. He took post graduate courses at the University of Maine, the University of New Hampshire and Plymouth State College. He loved to spend the summers at Old Orchard Beach, Maine, with his family and friends.



He leaves behind his wife of 51 years, Nancy (Birt) Pickford of Berlin ; son Thomas Pickford and wife Keri of Berlin; daughter Katherine Pickford of Manchester, NH; granddaughters Akaylah and Isabella; sister Colleen and her husband Dr. Richard Booth of Springhouse, PA; brother Pat Pickford of Dover Point, NH; brother-in-law Charles Birt and wife Debbie of Manchester, NH; nieces, nephews and many wonderful friends. He was predeceased by his parents and his in-laws, Cora and Joseph Birt.



A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday October 7, 2019 at 10 AM at St. Anne Church of Good Shepherd Parish. Interment will be in the Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call at the Bryant Funeral Home, 180 Hillside Ave, on Sunday evening from 4 to 7 PM. Donations in his memory may be made to the Salve Regina Academy, 151 Emery St., Berlin, NH, 03570.
