Sylvio J Croteau

November 30, 1930 — May 13, 2014

Sylvio J. Croteau of 3094 Westland Road, Brooksville, FL and formerly of Grafton Street Berlin, NH passed away Tuesday, May 13, 2014 at Sturgill Care Hospice Center in Brooksville, FL following a period of declining health. He was 83.

Born on November 30, 1930 in Berlin, NH, he was the son of Leo L. and Beatrice (Gallant) Croteau.

Sylvio attended Guardian Angel Grammar School and was a 1950 graduate of Notre Dame High School in Berlin. While in high School, he was a varsity letterman in both Baseball and Hockey. He later played for the Berlin Maroons who won the 1954 National AHA Hockey Championship. He was also an avid Hunter, Fisherman and Camper.

On June 2, 1952, he married Rita L. Pinette of Berlin.

He was employed at Brown Company for many years and retired as foreman from James River Corporation in 1988. He was a former member of Local 75.

He was very active in local politics and community affairs, serving on the Berlin City Council for 10 years and then as Mayor of Berlin, serving from 1972-1976. While Mayor, he was instrumental in gaining the funding for Jericho Lake Park, and in the Berlin Industrial Park. He was also Chairman of the Committee for Boy Scouts Troup 235 in Berlin.

Besides his parents, he is pre-deceased by two brothers Joseph R. Croteau and Norman Croteau.

He leaves his wife of 61 years Rita L. (Pinette) Croteau of Brooksville, FL; A daughter Sylvia Charest and her husband Roger of Berlin, NH; Two sons Paul L. Croteau and wife Lizanne of North Reading, Mass and Ronald R. Croteau and his wife Diane of Barrington, NH; Six grandchildren: Stephanie Blair, Mark Charest, Matthew Charest, Andrew Croteau, Kayla Croteau and Michael Keyichian; four great-grandchildren: Caitlin & Lindsey Blair and Benjamin and Tyler Charest. Two brothers Rodrique Croteau of Keene, NH and Lucien Croteau of Berlin, NH; Three sisters: Sister Roberta Croteau, Presentation of Mary, Gracia Chauvin, and Marcelle Aubin all of Manchester, NH. Several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A Memorial Mass will be held at 1:00pm Friday, May 30, 2014 at St. Anne Church of Good Shepherd Parish in Berlin.

Calling hours will be held from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm and 6:00pm to 8:00pm Thursday, May 29, 2014 and also from 11:30am to 12:30pm Friday, May 30, 2014 (prior to the mass) at Fleury-Patry Funeral Home, 72 High Street, Berlin, NH.

Memorial donations may be made in his honor to HPH Hospice Foundation, 12107 Majestic Boulevard, Hudson FL 34667-2455.
