Stephen J. Alimandi

Stephen J. Alimandi, 84, passed away peacefully at the Androscoggin Valley Hospital surrounded by his family on Saturday December 13, 2008. He was born in Berlin, NH on September 18, 1924, the son of the late Eugene and Antonia (Yannucci) Alimandi. He attended local schools before enlisting in the U. S. Navy. During World War II, Steve was transported to the Phillipine Islands aboard the USS San Sava where he proudly served in the Seabees until being Honorably Discharged in 1946. He retired from James River Corporation as foreman of the Cascade Welding Shop after 39 years of service. Steve will be remembered by many as an avid nature enthusiast whose knowledge of the North Woods inspired a love of nature in his family. His nightly bear/moose tours delighted his grandchildren. Many will remember seeing him on his excursions with his beloved dog, Duke. Steve leaves his wife of 57 years Doris (Filteau) Alimandi of Berlin, NH; a son Stephen T. Alimandi of Hampton, NH; 5 daughters Vicki Neville of Casselberry, FL, Judi Connolly and husband Hubert of St. Petersburg, FL, Heidi Gray and husband Russell of Gorham, NH, Bonni Tennis and husband Jesse of Berlin, NH and Terri Hayes and husband Jeremy of Berlin, NH; 7 grandchildren Mari Jo Clark of Longwood, FL, Tim Neville of St. Petersburg, FL, Audrey Connolly of Miami, FL, Jimmy Gray and David Gray of Gorham, NH, Emily Tennis and Kathryn Hayes of Berlin, NH; 5 great-grandchildren, Amberley, Alexander, Johnathan , Samantha and Christina; his brother Francis Alimandi of Berlin, NH; several nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday December 16, 2008 at 11 AM at St. Anne Church of Good Shepherd Parish. Relatives and friends may call at the Bryant Funeral Home, 180 Hillside Ave., Berlin on Monday afternoon and evening from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM.
