Shirley M. Lavertu

d. October 1, 2019

Shirley Maxine (Currier) Lavertu, 84 of Berlin, NH passed away on Monday, October 1, 2019 at the Grafton County Nursing Home in North Haverhill, NH. She was born in Berlin on February 21, 1935, the daughter of Elwood E. and Phyllis N (Adair) Currier.

A life-long Berlin resident, Shirley worked hard to provide for her family. She enjoyed her time at Converse, Kelley’s Pastry Shop, George’s Candy Shop, Al’s Steak House and the Chuck Wagon where she and her sister Colleen greeted everyone with a smile; an infectious smile and audible laugh that will be forever in our mind’s ear. She cared for so many people in the Berlin/Gorham area, in Arizona and in Florida as a home care aide well into her 70’s. She loved her family like no other and enjoyed family gatherings, the company of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren near and far, old movies, reading and gaming, especially those slots! Most recently, she made the trip with her daughter Ann and granddaughter, Mallory to Oxford, Maine where the impromptu and unexpected presence of several family members added to her joy.

Shirley is survived by her daughter Ann Duffy of Monroe, sons Scott Lavertu and his wife Shannon, Robin Lavertu and his wife Monique (Cusson), daughter-in-law Nancy (Downs) Lavertue all of Berlin, Paul Lavertue, and Joseph Lavertue and his wife Sandra of CT, and their extended families of grands and greats. She also leaves siblings, Elwood “Buzz” Currier Jr. of TX, Vincent Currier of MA, Celestine Rowe of Bow, Sheila Hayes, Frances Piche and brother-in-law, Raymond Lavertue all of Berlin, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her sons Alan Lavertue, Daniel Lavertue, and Gary Lavertue, and siblings Durwood Currier, Stewart Currier and Colleen Currier.

Calling hours will be on Friday, October 4, 2019 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Bryant Funeral Home, 180 Hillside Avenue, Berlin, NH with a memorial service at 1:00 PM. Interment will follow at the St. Kieran Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to AV Home Care or the Grafton County Nursing Home in her memory.
