Rosario Lucien Bourassa

May 11, 1917 — July 14, 2010

Berlin, NH Rosario Lucien Bourassa, formerly of Jericho Road and a resident of Coos County Nursing Home for the past 5 years, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, July 14 at Androscoggin Valley Hospital. He was 93.

He was born on May 11, 1917 to Alfred Bourassa and Amanda Fortin in Saint Hermenegilde, Quebec, Canada.

Rosario immigrated to the United States at the age of 13 to work in logging camps. He later worked on the river hauling logs down the Androscoggin and was part of the last log run down the Androscoggin River in May of 1964. He then worked at Brown Company in the wood room where he retired in 1980 after having worked there for 28 years.

On October 18, 1941, Rosario married Dolores Lavertue and together they raised 5 children, Raymond, Maurice, Donald, Jeannette and Lena.

Rosario was well known for his bountiful vegetable gardens and his collection of old licensed plates, which he proudly displayed on his garage doors. He was also famous for his storytelling and many disguises. He loved the great outdoors and spent many hours hunting, fishing, berry picking and working in his garden.

Rosario was predeceased by his wife Dolores Lavertue Bourassa in April of 2005, his son Maurice Bourassa in January of 1993 and his daughter Jeannette Pond in June of 1969. Rosario was also predeceased by his brothers Josephat, Odias, Arthur, Phillibere, Oliva, Freddie, Leo Paul, and his sisters Rosealba Fortin, Rebecca Duchesnaye, Adela Leblanc and his grandson Brian Bourassa.

He is survived by his sons Raymond "Frenchie" Bourassa and his companion Ginny of Port Richey, Florida, Donald Bourassa of Berlin, NH and his daughter Lena Parent of Gorham, NH. Rosario leaves behind his sisters Rose-Aline Kelly and her husband George and Marieange Bernier of Berlin. Rosario also leaves behind eight grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11am, Saturday July 17th at St. Anne Church of Good Shepherd Parish. There are no calling hours.
