Mr. Roland R. Chabot, 69, of 30 Promenade Street, Gorham, NH passed away on Sunday February 27, 2005 at his home. He was born in Lewiston, ME on January 17, 1936 the son of Zepherin and Merilda (Lamontagne) Chabot and moved to Berlin at the age of 2. He had resided in Gorham since 1971. He was self-employed at Gorham Hardware & Sports Center which he owned and operated since 1964. He was a member of Holy Family Church, the Knights of Columbus and a 17 year member of the Army National Guard. He served on the Gorham Savings Bank Board of Directors, the Home Bank Board of Directors and the Board of Directors of the Notre Dame Arena. He was a past manager of the Notre Dame Arena and he and his son Mike operate the Pro Shop there. He was active and instrumental with the Berlin Maroons and in developing and supporting the Berlin Youth Hockey Program as both a coach and a referee. He coached many State Champion Youth Hockey Teams. He was most proud of taking the local Midget Team to the National Tournament in Marquette, Michigan in 1986. He was the past recipient of the Androscoggin Valley Fish and Game Club Sportsman of the Year Award and was also a member of the Fur, Feather and Fin Club. Besides his passion for his family and grandchildren, his other passions were fishing and hockey. Members of the family include his wife Doreen (Brideau) Chabot of Gorham, NH; 2 sons Michael Chabot and wife Terri of Gorham, NH and Gary Chabot and Pam of Durham, CT; 3 grandsons Eric, Adam and Jonathan; 1 granddaughter Caitlynn; 2 sisters Ledewiska Bussiere of Lewiston, ME and Merilda Blanche Lambert of Springfield, MA; nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother Louis (Phil) Chabot. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday March 3, 2005 at 11:00 AM at Holy Family Church in Gorham. Interment will be in the Mt. Hayes Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call at the Bryant Funeral Home, 1 Promenade Street, Gorham on Wednesday afternoon and evening from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM.
