Robert J. Barbieri

April 5, 1933 — December 26, 2019

Robert J. Barbieri, son of the late Agostino and Theresa (Garbarino) Barbieri, left this earth to join his parents and siblings Bartholomew, John, Linda (Lotwis), Louise (Rotundo) and Ann (Bell) on December 26, 2019. He was predeceased by his daughter Gina Bickford.



He was born on April 5, 1933 and lived on 44th Street in Brooklyn NY. He attended John Dewey Junior High and Manual Training High School. He enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1952 and after training at Camp Lejeune, KY was deployed to Korea where he was a radio operator. Upon his honorable discharge from the USMC he tried several jobs, finally settling for a job as a surgical technician in the experimental open-heart surgery department at New York University Medical School. While employed there he earned a B.S. in chemistry under the G.I. bill. In 1962, he married Barbara Potter of Berlin, NH and together they raised four children: James, Barbara (Patry), Gina (Bickford), and Lisa Barbieri.



He moved his family to Berlin while teaching science at Gorham High School for one year. The family then moved back to Brooklyn, NY while he was a tech on the NYU open heart surgery team at NYU-Bellevue Hospital. Two years later, in 1969, he and his family moved back to Berlin where he taught math at Berlin Junior High School. He later became the chair of both junior and senior high math departments, a position he held until his retirement in 1997. He enjoyed cross-country skiing and snowmachining at Meserves' camp (sister-in-law) at Lake Umbagog. He loved playing with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.



Members of the family include his wife Barbara (Potter) Barbieri of West Milan; son James Barbieri and wife Sandra of Brisbane, Australia; daughters Barbara Patry and Lisa Binette of Berlin; 11 grandchildren Tony Barbieri, Sean Patry, Ian Bickford, Cameron Patry, Brendan Binette, Trevor Bickford, Nicholas Barbieri, Jason Binette, Christopher Barbieri, Zachary Brunette, Kayleigh Brunette; 3 great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.



A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday January 17, 2020 from 3-6 PM at the the White Mountain Post #2520 VFW in Berlin. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to AV Home Care Services, 795 Main St, Berlin, NH 03570. Arrangements are entrusted to the Bryant Funeral Homes, Berlin and Gorham, NH.
