Richard Red Girard 57, passed away unexpectedly at his home on June12 2014 following a long illness. He was born on September 8,1956 and a lifelong resident of Berlin. He was a very special man who touched many lives with his varied talents, kindness and wonderful sense of humor. All of which won the heart of his beloved wife of 36 years. He was a devoted husband, father and friend. He leaves behind his wife, Jolene (Morin) Girard and two sons. Corey Girard of Pembroke, NH and Christopher Girard and fianc Shannon Whitehead of Concord, NH. His extended family includes Charles Ware, his wife Brandi and two grandchildren, Zachary and Sydney of Kingston, NY. A sister Janet Gosselin & husband Dennis of Auburn, ME; brother Ronald Girard and wife Debbie of Milan, NH; nieces Laurie Howard and Kathy Smith, and many cousins; mother-in-law Marie Morin; Brothers-in-law Joe Morin and wife Noella, Gary Morin and wife Janet, Phil Morin and wife Jeannette, John Morin and wife Debra; sisters-in-law Dean Low and Marlene Christopher; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Robert Girard and Eva (Dube) Girard. He was a graduate of Berlin High School, Class of 1974. He received an Associates Degree in Industrial Electricity from NH Technical College in 1976 and later a second Degree in Mechanical Maintenance. He started working for the Brown Co.paper mill in 1976 and remained there through its many changes working primarily as an Electrician until its closing in 2010. His most recent position was with the Berlin School System as the Building and Grounds Director. He was a member of the IBEW Electricians Union and the Red Knights firefighters motorcycle club. He had been an on call Firefighter since 1977 for the Berlin Fire Dept. and held the rank of Lieutenant. He was also the President of the its Association. He was an EMT. He was a member of Good Shepherd Parish. He was an avid skier, enjoyed working w/stain glass, kayaking and his most cherished past time, riding his Harley Davidson. Richard dedicated his time to his community as Scout Master for many years for Troop 207. Under his leadership there were 9 scouts that obtained their Eagle Rank, beginning with his oldest son Corey, which made him truly proud. He will be truly missed by all who loved him. A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday June 17, 2014 at 10 AM at St. Anne Church of Good Shepherd Parish. Interment will be in the Mt Calvary Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call at the Bryant Funeral Home, 180 Hillside Ave., Berlin on Monday afternoon and evening from 2to 4 and 7 to 9 PM. Donations in his memory may be made to the Granite State Fire Service Support Team, 55 Constitution Dr., Bedford, NH 03110 or to Weeks Medical Center Oncology Dept., 173 Middle St., Lancaster, NH 03584.
