Berlin, NH

Philip R. Labbe of William Street passed away late Thursday evening (July 8, 2010) at St. Vincent de Paul Nursing Home in Berlin, NH following a period of declining health. He was 94.

Born on July 2, 1916 in Wallagrass, Maine, he was the son of Henri D. and Alma (Saucie) Labbe.

At age 6, he and his family moved to Berlin from Wallagrass, ME.

On September 26, 1937, he married Germaine Dutil in Berlin.

During World War II, he served in the US Army as automotive mechanic.

Returning from the War, he was self employed as a mechanic and then worked for the City of Berlin.

He then went to work on Mount Washington, a career that spanned 32 years. First, for the US Air Force on de-icing and then for many years by WMTW TV as a mechanical engineer at the Mount Washington Summit. In the winters, he facilitated shift changes with the snow cats.

During the 1960's, he and his wife Germaine owned and operated a convenience store in Jackson, NH.

In retirement, he spent the winters in Titusville, FL with his companion of 13 years, Anita Leveille. He enjoyed tinkering with small engine repair projects. An avid fisherman, he enjoyed taking his grandchildren fishing. He also enjoyed golfing locally and in FLorida.

He is pre-deceased by his wife Germaine (1994), a grandson Matthew Labbe, A brother Paul Labbe, and 4 sisters Florence Labbe, Mildred Chase, Julie Blais, and Albertine Baker.

Survivors include: Three sons: Roger Labbe and his wife Jane of Bartlet, NH Lawrence Labbe and his wife Janet of Green Valley, AZ Gerald Labbe of Moultonborough, NH

A daughter Joyce Sanschagrin and her husband Richard of Berlin 9 Grandchildren, 10 Great-Grandchildren Many nieces & nephews.

Funeral Service will be held at 11am Tuesday, July 13in the parlor of Fleury-Patry Funeral Home, 72 High Street , Berlin.

Calling hours will be held on Monday, July 12 from 7-9pm and Tuesday, July 13 from 9am-11am prior to the service at the funeral home. Use School St. Entrance. Online guestbook at www.fleury-patry.com
