Mr. Oscar R. Hamlin, 88, formerly of 138 Prospect Street, Berlin, NH passed away on Monday September 12, 2005 at the St. Vincent de Paul Healthcare Center in Berlin. He was born in Hampden, ME on July 31, 1917 the son of George and Grace (Dunton) Hamlin. He graduated from Hampden Academy in 1935 and from the Pratt Institute in New York City with a B.S. in 1940. He moved to Berlin to work for the Brown Company. He was first in research and later was employed as a Superintendent of the chemical mill until its closing. He retired in the technical division of the Kraft Mill. He was a member of the Gorham Congregational Church, UCC, Gorham-Sabatis Lodge F&AM, Past Master of Sabatis Lodge, 32nd Degree Scottish Right Mason and a member of the Bektash Temple. He was also a member of the Berlin O.E.S. For many years, he served the City of Berlin as its Tree Warden. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and a long time member of the A.V. Country Club. He had also served on the planning board for the City of Berlin for many years. Members of the family include his wife Inez (Nutbrown) Hamlin of Berlin, NH; 1 daughter Janice Gesswein of Centerville, VA; 4 grandchildren James Gesswein, Kurt Gesswein, Diane Bezzati and Trina Fontneau; 3 great-grandchildren Amber Gesswein, Aaron Gesswein and Jacob Fontneau and 1 sister Irene Thorndike of Binghamton, NY. He was predeceased by a daughter Judith (Hamlin) Sutera and a brother Lloyd Hamlin. FUNERAL SERVICES will be held on Saturday Sept. 24, 2005 at the Gorham Congregational Church, UCC at 2:00 PM. Interment will be in the Lary Cemetery in Gorham, NH. Relatives and friends may call at the Bryant Funeral Home, 180 Hillside Avenue, Berlin, NH on Friday evening Sept. 23 from 7:00 to 9:00 PM. Anyone who wishes may make a donation to the Gorham Congregational Church, UCC, Main Street, Gorham, NH 03581 or to the Garden Fund at St. Vincent de Paul Healthcare Center, Providence Avenue, Berlin, NH 03570 in his memory.
