Norman Story Hayes, of Berlin, passed away Saturday, June 8, 2019 at the Androscoggin Valley Hospital. Norman leaves behind his adoring wife, Sheila. Norman and Sheila were married for many happy, wonderful years. Norman grew up in Berlin, the son of Norman P. Hayes and Helen Story Hayes. Norman was predeceased by his parents and his brother, Robert Hayes, his grandparents Jack & Eleanor Story and his Nanna and Poppy Hayes. Norman graduated from Berlin High School and held certificates for numerous engineering classes and programs. Norman was extremely proud to have served in the United States Air Force. He was an air traffic controller who skillfully taught others air traffic control while in the service. Despite being offered a position at LaGuardia Airport, Norman decided to return to his home town of Berlin and accept a position with TV Cable. He eventually found his life-long career with Bell Telephone. He retired from Bell Telephone and enjoyed his retirement years traveling to Florida in the winter with his wife Sheila and golfing at Androscoggin Valley Country Club and across the North Country. Norman also leaves behind many nieces, nephews and extended family who loved him dearly. Countless people called him Uncle Norman. He will be greatly missed. Private Services will be held at the Bryant Funeral Home, 180 Hillside Ave., Berlin. Interment will be in the St. Kieran Cemetery. There will be no calling hours.
