Norman Dumont

Norman Dumont of Berlin, NH passed away due to illness on Wednesday, January 4, 2017 at Coos County Nursing Home. He was 83 years old. He was born on October 18, 1933 to his parents Blanche and Joseph Dumont of 520 School Street, Berlin.

Norman loved spending time with his family. He was a devoted father and husband. His hobbies were crossword puzzles, reading, jigsaw puzzles, cribbage, woodworking, motorcycle riding, smoking his pipe (also while riding his motorcycle) and fishing with his sons. Norman was a graduate of Notre Dame High School in 1951. He attended the University of New Hampshire for two years, and later was drafted into the U.S Army. He served two years in the U.S. Army first as one of the Nike missile control console operators on Long Island, then at that bases headquarters in the personnel dept. He returned to Berlin after an honorable discharge and began work at Brown Company as he served his required time in the Army National Guard. After a few years he tested very well on the Civil Service Exam and found his true calling as a Letter Carrier in the U.S. Postal Service.

On May 30, 1964 he married Joanne Dumont, who he had two sons with, Ronald William and Michael Leo. They resided at 492 Champlain Street until June of 1977 when they moved to 55 Williamson Avenue. He became widowed on May 9, 1999. He was later married to Lorraine Langlois on March 17, 2012 and continued to reside at 55 Williamson Avenue in Berlin.

He loved to listen to classical music and show tunes and sang along with the record to entertain all in attendance. He was active in the Church choir for many years. He was an accomplished ballroom and polka dancer and often talked about how he learned how to dance at the USO during his time stationed on Long Island. Norman also served on the School Board for Catholic schools during the 1970s. He was a Letter Carrier for the U.S. Postal Service for 37 years before his retirement in 1997. He also held several leadership positions in the local chapter of the National Association of Letter Carriers Union.

Norman was predeceased by his parents, wife Joanne Dumont, his siblings Olive Quimby of Berlin, Robert Dumont of Berlin, Roger Dumont of Nashua, and William Dumont of Berlin, and nephew Paul Dumont of Berlin.

He is survived by his wife Lorraine Dumont of Berlin, two children Ronald Dumont of Bedford, NH, and Michael Dumont of Bedford, NH, Daughter in law Melissa Dumont of Bedford, NH two grandchildren Joshua and Nicole Dumont of Bedford, NH, nieces Rachel Anderson of Millsboro, DE, Linda Quimby of Exeter, NH, nephews David Quimby of Santa Ana, CA, and Mark Dumont of Berlin, step sons Richard Langlois of Laconia, NH, Michel Langlois of Berlin, and step daughter Lisa Langlois Tucker of Tamworth, NH, step grandchildren Joshua Langlois of Laconia, NH, Emmitt Langlois of Berlin, Jacob Tucker of Tamworth, Christian Tucker of Tamworth NH and Danielle Tucker of Tamworth, NH.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, January 7th at 10 am at St. Anne Church of Good Shepard Parish, Berlin, NH.

Calling hours will be at Fleury-Patry Funeral Home, 72 High Street, Berlin, NH on Friday, January 6th from 6 8 pm and prior to the service on Saturday from 8:30am to 9:30am. Interment will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
