Muriel C. (Ashley) OBrien Bassett, 95, of Berlin, passed away peacefully surrounded by love and friendship on Thursday, November 16, 2017, at the Androscoggin Valley Hospital in Berlin. She was born in Calais, Maine the daughter of the late Rufus & Blanche (Lakin) Ashley. Raised in Woodland, Maine she worked for the town as the Town Clerk after living in Central Maine for many years, she and her husband, Lawrence, moved to the Berlin area in 1969. She was the co-owner of the C.N. Hodgdon Oil Company in Berlin for many years. Members of the family include her husband, Earl D. Bassett, of Berlin, sons Ashley OBrien and wife Linda of Livermore, ME, Rev. Timothy OBrien of Windsor Locks, CT and Dennis OBrien and wife Deborah of Newburyport, MA; daughters Kate OBrien Minson and husband Dr. Ron of Denver, Colorado and Sr. Mary Judith OBrien of Saginaw, Michigan, 4 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her first husband Lawrence OBrien, a brother James Ashley and one grandchild. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, November 21, 2017 at 11am at St. Anne Church of Good Shepherd Parish. At Muriels request there will be no calling hours. Friends and relatives are asked to meet directly at the church. Interment will be in St. Stephen, New Brunswick, Canada at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in Muriels memory may be made to Senior Meals of Coos County, 610 Sullivan Street, Berlin, NH 03570. Arrangements are under the direction of the Bryant Funeral Homes, Berlin and Gorham, NH.
