Mildred Chaloux

March 7, 1940 — April 1, 2014

Berlin, NH

The chimes from heaven rang calling Mildred Elizabeth "Millie" Chaloux, a longtime resident of Champlain Street, to heaven on Tuesday April 1, 2014 at Androscoggin Valley Hospital following a brief illness.

Born on March 7, 1940 in Bethel, Maine, she was the daughter of Leslie and Shirley Elizabeth (Merrill) Bates.

Millie grew up and was educated in Bethel, ME and was a graduate of Gould's Academy.

On December 20, 1958, she married Norman H. Chaloux.

Shortly after high school, she attended a Bakery School in Niagara Falls, NY which laid a foundation for her accomplished baking career. She was known for her cheesy breads and meat pies. Over the years, she was employed at various bakeries/stores and was the bakery/deli manager at the IGA Foodliner in Berlin, NH for many years. She was awarded "Baker of the Year" from Prescott Farms.

Her past times included playing bingo and traveling to places such as Old Orchard Beach, taking cruises, trips to California and Napa Valley/Wine Country, and Hawaii. She was often lucky and enjoyed gambling at Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun. She also did seamstress work making clothing and knitting for family and grandchildren. Popcorn with extra butter was her favorite snack.

She leaves her husband of 55 years Norman Chaloux of Berlin, her children Darlene Miller and her husband Mark of Laconia, Wayne Chaloux and his wife Molly of Gonic, NH, Timothy Chaloux of Rochester, NH, and Patricia Derosier and her husband Duane of Danbury, NH, three brothers Leslie Bates of Turner Falls, ME, Robert Bates of Rumford, ME, and Michael Bates of Lewiston, ME; 11 grandchildren, Eric Perry, Christopher Perry, Krystal Miller, Marcie Miller, Sarah Chaloux, Marina Chaloux, Sean Chaloux, Sherri Croteau, Alayna Coates, Nadine Coates, Skylor Miller, and 8 great-grandchildren.

A Celebration of her Life will be held for her family and friends privately.
