Mrs. Marjorie A. (Richards) Gilbert, 96, formerly of 284 Denmark Street, Berlin, NH passed away on Friday December 14, 2007 in Bedford, NH. She was born in AuSable Forks, NY on March 21, 1911 the daughter of Russell E. and Emma Elizabeth (Snow) Richards and moved to Berlin at the age of 3. Members of the family include 2 daughters Nancy J. Berry of Manchester, NH and Patricia J. Van Den Berghe and her husband Peter of Manchester, NH; 1 son Richard B. Gilbert of Windham, NH; 1 granddaughter Stephanie Braun of Englewood Cliffs, NJ; 1 grandson Stephen Berry of Jacksonville, FL and a large extended family. She was predeceased by her husband Harry E. Gilbert who died on March 28, 1969. Mrs. Gilbert was very active in her community when her children were young and served as President of PTA, 4H and member of the Berlin School Board. She was an avid artist for 30 years and was still active several times a week with her beloved art group prior to her illness. A member of the Valley Wellness Group and Secretary of Motivated Elderly for Self Help (MESH) for many years, she co-authored and participated in annual musical comedy plays relating to her generation. She was honored by MESH, friends, citizens and family with a "This Is Your Life Marjorie Gilbert" celebration for her community contributions and also received an award from the State of NH for her dedication by then Governor Judd Gregg. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 19, 2007 at 11:00 AM at the Bryant Funeral Home, 180 Hillside Ave., Berlin, NH. Interment will be in the Russian City Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday morning from 9:00 to 11:00 AM prior to the service.
