Margaret (Masters) Desmond, 92, of Shelburne, passed away on June 30, 2017 at the Androscoggin Valley Hospital following a brief illness. Born October 10, 1924 in Dorchester, MA, Margaret attended local Catholic schools, graduating in 1942. She worked for several area businesses before enlisting in the US Marine Corps in the second class of women admitted to this branch of service. Following boot camp at Paris Island, she was stationed in Washington, DC and worked in the US Navy Department of Public Information. In 1950, she married Louis Desmond and was honorably discharged from the Marine Corps. Margaret raised her family in Holbrook, MA and upon retirement in 1982, moved to Shelburne. Margaret was an avid reader and loved cooking. She thoroughly enjoyed family get-togethers. She is survived by Louis, her husband of 67 years, three sons and their wives, Richard and Coleen Desmond of East Falmouth, MA, Dennis and Cynthia Desmond of Shelburne, NH, and Alan and Jaletta Desmond of Winston-Salem, NC. Grandchildren include Erin Barber and her husband, Tom of North Attleboro, MA, Derek Desmond of North Hollywood, CA and Julia Desmond of Winston-Salem, NC. Margaret had one great-grandchild, Thomas (Teo) Barber of North Attleboro, MA. The family wishes to thank the staff of Androscoggin Valley Hospital for the wonderful and compassionate care Margaret received while a patient. Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday July 11, 2017 at 10 AM at the Bryant Funeral Home, 1 Promenade St., Gorham. Calling hours for close friends and neighbors will be held at the funeral home Monday July 10, 2017 from 3 to 5 PM. Interment will be in the Wheeler Cemetery, Shelburne.
