Mr. Leopold G. Paul Goupil , 94, of Berlin, N. H. was called by our Lord on January 11, 2019 in the Community Living Center at The Manchester NH VA surrounded by his family. He was born in St. Leon, P. Q. Canada on December 21, 1924, the son of Adelard and Germaine (DeServe) Goupil, living most of his life in Berlin, NH. He was proud to be a member of the first graduating class of Notre Dame High School. Soon enlisted by the U. S. War Department, he spent the ensuing years with the U. S. Army Rangers in countless locations and missions in the Asiatic Pacific Theater for the duration of World War II. As a Staff Sergeant and with decoration, he was honorably discharged from his final mission in Japan. Returning from the war, he met and married Lois L. (Parisee) Goupil. Together in Berlin, they raised 5 children. Paul earned his living logging and established his career at Brown Company, later known as James River Corporation where he assumed a supervisory role. He retired following a long and respected career and enjoyed well earned vacations every summer at Sebago Lake, ME. and Hampton, NH. Upon retirement, Paul & Lois spent winters in St. Petersburg, Florida and their summers back home in New Hampshire. He was an enthusiastic sports fan, and particularly enjoyed playing golf until the age of 92. Paul was predeceased by his wife Lois. He is survived by his five children, Diane (Stan) Ziemba, Paul (Margie) Goupil, Leo (Debbie) Goupil, Ron Goupil and Don (Velma Ann) Goupil, 10 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, 4 great-great grandchildren, several cousins, nieces and nephews. SERVICES: Visitation will be held on June 7, 2019 from 11 AM to 1 PM at the Bryant Funeral Home, Berlin. A memorial service will be held at 1 PM in the funeral home. Interment will follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to: Wounded Warrior Project, www.woundedwarriorproject.org. The family extends our heartfelt thanks to the dedicated staff of the Manchester VA CLC and Palliative Care Units for their loving care.
