Laurier A Dion

Laurier A. Dion passed away peacefully in his home on Monday, July 10, 2017. He was 101 years old.

Born in Berlin, NH on October 13, 1915 he was the son of George and Georgiana (Demers) Dion Beaulieu. He attended St. Rigis Academy and graduated from Berlin High School.

During the depression, his step father Joseph Beaulieu bought a farm in Milan, NH and the family moved to Milan in June of 1931. During the hurricane of 1938 the barn collapsed off the foundation and killed 11 cows. The farm was situated where the Berlin Airport is now. The city of Berlin then purchased the farm in 1941 for the Airport. The family moved back to Berlin in 1941.

Laurier was employed by Brown Company on September 9, 1941, he worked until he was drafted. He went into the Army on January 9, 1942 and went overseas on January 5, 1943. He spent 34 months in England and was discharged in October of 1945. Upon his discharge, he returned to work for Brown Company. He worked in various departments, the Woodroom, the Sulphite Digester House and then the #8 Boiler in the Kraft Mill. In 1957 he was asked to transfer to MGO Boiler as the operator. After that he became the Foreman of the Sulphite Mill. Following the closure to the Sulphite Mill, he then went to work on the Paper Machines in Cascade. When they started Point Nine, he transferred as Assistant Operator and then promoted to Foreman and remained until his retirement on disability in 1974.

He was an avid golfer, and spent a lot of time golfing. He also enjoyed woodworking in the winter months, making tables, bookcases, shadow boxes, tea carts, corner shelves, and end tables for all his nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents he was predeceased by three brothers, Eddy, George and Aime Dion; two half-brothers Albert and Leo Beaulieu and two sisters, Alice Houle and Lena Jacques; and a nephew George Dion.

Laurier leaves behind several nieces and nephews; Ann Patry, Theresa Gagne, Priscilla Nadeau, Lorraine Morin, Lucille Peterson, Cecile Poirier, Rita Poirier, Louise Royce, Pauline Halbert, George Houle, Lawrence Dion, Robert Dion, Sueno Beulieu, Roland Jacques and Leo Beaulieu, Albert Beaulieu and Arthur Beaulieu.

Calling hours will be held on Friday, July 14, 2017 from 6:00pm until 8:00pm at Fleury-Patry Funeral Home, 72 High Street, Berlin, NH.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00am on Saturday, July 15, 2017 at St. Anne Church of Good Shepherd Parish, Berlin, NH. Interment will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Berlin, NH.
