Kathleen Wight Reid, 93, of 156 Lancaster Road, Gorham, NH, passed away at her home on Thursday, January 9, 2009. She was born in Berlin, NH, June 21, 1915, the daughter of Daniel R. and Mabel E. (Goud) Wight, and was a lifelong resident of Gorham. She graduated from Gorham High School in 1932 and attended the State Normal School in Keene, NH. In 1938 she married Lewis Albion Reid. She worked for photographer Guy Shorey, and at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard during World War II. Following the war, she and her husband, Lewis, owned and operated Brae Burn Cabins for 30 years. Kay also was a substitute teacher in schools in Gorham, Berlin, Milan, and Errol. She served on the Gorham Planning Board and was the only woman on the Building Committee when the Gorham Schools were renovated. She was a member of the Gorham Congregational Church, UCC, where she was a deacon and served on other committees. She also was a member of the Gorham Womens Club, The White Mountain League, and the Mildred Horton Book Club. She is survived by her daughter, Linda Reid Higgins and husband Garry, of Fort Myers, Florida; her son, Brent L. Reid of Nottingham, NH; and her daughter, Heather A. Reid, of Gorham; by grandchildren, Krista Hardee and husband Thad; Beth Reid and boyfriend John Mitchell; Cameron Reid and wife Emerall; four great-grandsons, Ryan Patterson, Colton and Hayden Hardee, and Kyle Mitchell. She also is survived by a sister-in-law Louise Wight, cousin Claris Head Lacey and her husband William, other cousins, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband of 59 years, Lewis Albion Reid. Visiting time will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday January 17, 2009, followed by a memorial service at 2:00, at Bryant Funeral Home, 1 Promenade Street, Gorham, NH. Interment in the Lary Cemetery will take place at the convenience of the family. In memory of Kathleen Wight Reid, donations may be made to the Gorham Randolph Shelburne Educational Foundation, GHS, 120 Main Street, Gorham, NH 03581, or to the charity of ones choice.
