Katherine R. Gauthier

d. August 16, 2013

BERLIN....Katherine Rose (Wheelock) Gauthier, 84, long-time resident of Berlin and Summer resident of Jefferson, NH, died August 16, 2013 at RIVERSIDE REST HOME, Dover, NH, where she resided and was well cared for by the gentle and loving staff of in the Homes very dedicated Alzheimers Care Unit since November 2009. She was formerly a member of Saint Kieran Parish, & Good Shepherd Parish, Berlin, active in the Altar Rosary Society, Ladies Guild and prayer group. Katherine was born in Lyme, NH to Dorman Wheelock & Christabelle (Druge) Wheelock, on January 20, 1929. She lived and worked at the Druge Farms in Lyme and Messer Farms in East Thetford, VT, till her late teenage years, when she married her beloved, Donald Gauthier in 1948, who died in January 1994. They raised five children in Berlin: Two daughters: Susan Steele (Partner Lou Ward), of Auburn, ME; Sandra ("Sammi") Armentrout (husband John) of Bath ME; three sons: Dorman (Augusta, ME & Ocala, FL); Donald (North Conway); Daniel (Berlin). She leaves six grandchildren: Kelley Gauthier, Heather Loven (husband Eric), Juliana French (husband Jayme), Dominique DuTremble, Marena DuTremble, Corey Pinette and two great-grandsons, Elijah Pinette and Ethan Allen Loven. Katherine also leaves her sister Ruth Morneau of Berlin, Sister-in-law Donna Wheelock (Berlin), Brother-in-law Armand Carignan and many nieces and nephews, her dear friends Madeline Goeffrey (Fairlee, VT) and Lorraine and Donald Perry, Berlin. She was predeceased by her parents, her husband Don, Her son Dorman J. (died December 9, 2012 in Ocala, FL), her brothers Dorman (Jim) and Robert Wheelock, her Sister Beverly Carignan and Brother-in-law Robert Morneau. Katherine had a 50 year career with AVON Cosmetics and reigned as AVON QUEEN OF THE YEAR in 1963. Her former boss, Beatrice Anderson of Conway, NH, describes Katherine today as "Everybodys favorite". Her fame in the city of Berlin lives on today as the kindest, gentlest, hard-working, faith-filled woman that will always live in our memories. She knew every customers family and was a bi-monthly visitor to hundreds of homes on the East Side. Friends say that people purchased cosmetics just so they could have time with their friend "Kay". Katherine also monitored, ushered and guarded thousands of school children as a School Crossing Guard for nearly three decades with the Berlin Police Department, right up until she became ill, or she would still be manning her post today. She often attended, with her sisters, her children and brothers-in-law, the annual POLICE MEMORIAL ceremonies in Concord to honor her fallen brother Patrolman Jim (Dorman) Wheelock and fellow fallen officers and living members of the NH law-enforcement community. She proudly cherished her brothers Berlin Police Department Badge for many years since his tragic death in 1970, along with his partner and friend, Patrolman Robert Devoid. Now...after a very good life, enjoying pilgrimages to Rome and the State of Israel, as her lifes highlights, she will be lovingly missed by her children. But, her pathway to Heaven seemed always to reflect a joyful spirit that characterized her entire life. She began every day with early morning Scripture reading, followed by reflection for no less than an hour with her God. Even in her own illness, she was often seen tenderly caring for other Alzheimer patients as she walked hundreds of miles in the Units corridors, attentive to all whom she passed, as though it were second nature for her, because that was truly her! Family and friends are invited to celebrate her life in any way you wish. Join her children if you can. Wed like to thank all her friends for filling her life.
