Karen Bembridge

d. December 14, 2018

Karen Bembridge, 71, passed away on December 14, 2018 at home in Errol, New Hampshire surrounded by her loving family. Karen was born in Boston, MA in 1947, the daughter of Marilyn (Rice) Dawson. She graduated from Leicester High School in 1965 and attended Worcester State College finishing with a degree in Human Services, ultimately obtaining her Masters Certificate from Plymouth State College. After marrying in 1969, Karen and Tom moved to Oregon where Tom obtained his vocational training in Forestry. The couple returned to New England in 1974, settling north of the White Mountains in Errol in 1976. She was a Special Education teacher at Berlin High School from 1987 to 2002. She later worked for the North Country Education Foundation performing assessments to help disabled students find suitable and satisfying employment. For the past 21 years, Karen was the owner and operator of Knot Just Logs, a gift shop in Errol. At the heart of her circle of family and friends, Karen was well known for her humor, hospitality, love of travel, and taste for good wine and good food. She was an accomplished cook, delighting all with her culinary skills. Karen and Tom traveled extensively in the winter, choosing to explore, as she put it, anyplace warm and sunny which included most of the southern states. A favorite adventure was their annual sojourn to St. Maarten; a twenty-year tradition they enjoyed with their daughter, son-in-law and granddaughter each February. She is survived by her husband of 49 years Tom Bembridge, her daughter Leslie Bembridge, son-in-law Dan Turmel and granddaughter Kaitlin Turmel of Hooksett, NH. She leaves behind three siblings: Susan Marwick of Bend, OR, Jani Dawson Bruce (Bill Bruce) of Denver, CO and Don Dawson (Christine Dawson) of Bridgewater, MA. She also leaves behind 6 nephews, two nieces, and 5 great-nephews. She was predeceased by her brother, Joseph ODonnell. A Celebration of Life will be held in her honor from 1-3pm on January 5, 2019 at the Errol Town Hall. Please honor Karens request by wearing your Sunday Best. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to: Mass General Ovarian Cancer Unit, https://giving.massgeneral.org/cancer/donate/ or to: The Indian Stream Health Center, Inc., 141 Corliss Lane, Colebrook, NH 03576.
