Joseph Dorval

Joseph 'Joe' E.G. Dorval, a longtime resident of Rockingham Street, passed away Wednesday, October 07, 2015 at his home following a short illness. He was 83.

Born on April 22, 1932 in Berlin, NH, he was the son of Edouard and Malvina (Gosselin) Dorval.

In 1950, Joe enlisted in the US Army and served six years as a paratrooper with the 101st Airborne, receiving an honorable discharge in 1956.

On December 17, 1954, he married Carolyn O. (Hartman) while stationed at Ft. Dix, NJ. They enjoyed 60 years of marriage.

Returning to Berlin, where he was employed at various jobs and retired from the White Mountain Community College where he was the head of maintenance.

His past times included fishing, hunting, camping, and spending time with family, especially the grandchildren. His pride and joy of family gatherings was his traditional Fourth of July BBQ.

Joe was a founding member of the Berlin Youth Hockey. His devotion to Hockey and the youth of Berlin spanned several years. Affectionately known as 'Joe Cool', he served youth hockey as coach, Board of Directors, Bus Driver, and anything else that needed to be done.

He was a communicant of St. Kieran's Church now Good Shepherd Parish in Berlin and was a life member of the VFW Post 2520 where he served as Past Commander and held state office with the VFW.

Besides his parents, he is pre-deceased by a sister Marie Dorval.

He leaves his loving wife Carolyn O. Hartman of Berlin, two sons Joseph E. G 'Jerry' Dorval, Jr. and wife Sheila of Standish, ME and Mark A. Dorval and wife Karin of Berlin; three daughters Darlene Hardy and husband Duane of Bradford, NH, Susan Dorval and husband Frank La Roche of Berlin, and Christine Langevin and husband Robert of Berlin; grandchildren Lindsey Dorval, Lacie Dionne and husband Josh, Christopher Adams and wife Katryn, Heather Langevin and companion Shayne Foley, Jaimie Stewart and husband Nick, Trennan Dorval and companion Susan Bard, Jonathan Langevin and companion Ellie Clauss, Ethan Dorval, Emma Dorval, and Owen Dorval; great-grandchildren; Khloe and Maddox Adams, Brielle Dionne, and baby Stewart due to arrive in March 2016.

Calling hours will be held from 2:00pm to 6:00pm Friday, October 9th at Fleury-Patry Funeral Home, 72 High Street, Berlin, NH followed by a chapel service with military honors at 6:00pm.

Burial will be at NH State Veterans Cemetery at a later date.
