John R. Strout

Mr. John R. Strout, 87, of 141 Lancaster Rd., Gorham, NH passed away on Friday May 11, 2012 at the Androscoggin Valley Hospital in Berlin. He was born in Berlin, NH on November 23, 1924 the son of Harvey and Edna (Peabody) Strout and was a lifelong resident of the Berlin-Gorham area. He was a US Army Air Force Veteran of World War II and had been employed by John Hancock Insurance Company for 28 years, retiring in 1987. John was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Berlin and the Ryan-Scammon Post #36 American Legion in Berlin. He wintered in Florida for 18 years, enjoyed golf, fishing, hunting and most of all, spending time with his family. Members of the family include his wife Irene (Belanger) Strout of Gorham, NH; son Dayna Strout and wife Cecile of West Milan, NH; daughter Lisa Strout Carter of Gorham, NH; grandchildren Julie Cooney and husband Shawn of Berlin, NH and Christopher Strout and wife Amber of Lewiston, ME; great-grandchildren Braeden Cooney, Shea Cooney and Layla Strout; nieces, nephews and cousins. A Memorial Service in celebration of his life will be held on Wednesday May 16 at 11 AM at the Bryant Funeral Home, 1 Promenade St., Gorham, NH. Interment will be in the Mt. Hayes Cemetery.
