Janice G. Beattie, 58, of Sun City Center, FL died unexpectedly on May 21, 2009 at her home in Sun City Center. Jan was born on Nov. 2, 1950, the daughter of Ernest Sam Gagner and Lois (Shirley) Gagner in Princeton, ME. In addition to her mother, Jan is survived by her best friend and husband of 36 years, Ross, and their son Nicholas and his wife Valerie and their daughters Quinn, Noelle, Briar and son Trey. Jan was the sister of Jeff Gagner and his wife Pat of Baileyville, ME, Frank Gagner and his wife Vicki of Baileyville, ME and David Gagner of Bangor, ME. Jans father and brothers Frank and David all predeceased her. Jan is also survived by many special nephews and nieces. Growing up with three brothers gave Jan the foundation to become very competitive in a male dominated sports world. She loved and was very good at snow skiing, figure skating, and after Nick went off to college, golf. Jan developed her interest in golf while she resided in Berlin, NH from 1976 to 1989 and was a member of the Androscoggin Valley Country Club, where she made many friends. She also was active with the childrens figure skating program at the Notre Dame Arena in Berlin. Upon moving to San Diego, Cal. in 1989, she attended the two-year San Diego Golf Academy achieving an Associate of Applied Business Degree in Golf Complex Operations and Management. She was a Teaching Professional at Tecolote Canyon Golf Course in San Diego, helped the Brinker family open their golf course as a Club Professional in Evansville, Indiana, was a Teaching Professional at Falcon Watch Golf Club and Kings Point Golf Club in Sun City Center, FL and was a Teaching Professional at Cypress Creek Golf Course in Ruskin, FL. Jan deeply touched the hearts and minds of nearly everyone she met. She is loved by golf students and friends from around the world; from Germany to Italy to Japan to Canada to Central and South America and from Maine to California to Wyoming to Indiana and to Florida. One of Jans great qualities is what you see is what you get. You never had to wonder what she was thinking. Jan you truly will be missed! A Memorial Service will be held at Bryant Funeral Home in Berlin, NH on Tuesday June 30 at 1 PM. A second service will be held on Friday July 3 at 1 PM at St. James Catholic Church in Baileyville, ME.Contributions in Jans memory can be made to the American Heart Association, 11207 Blue Heron Blvd. N, St. Petersburg, FL 33716.
