Irene (Halle) Canavan, age 76, of Duxbury, died on Friday, November 21, 2014, at her home. Irene was born in Berlin, NH, on January 29, 1938, grew up speaking French and was a daughter of the late Alfred & Gabrielle (Carrier) Halle. She graduated high school from Notre Dame High School in Berlin, NH and attended Plymouth State College in New Hampshire. She had worked at Brown Company as a telephone operator and moved to Boston in 1959. For many years, Irene was an accounting manager at R.S. Means Company in Kingston and was an office manager at Carolina Hill Shelter in Marshfield. Irene was a faith-filled woman; she was very involved at the Holy Family Church in Duxbury. She was a Eucharistic Minister and travelled to Israel. Irene was a longtime volunteer at the Bay Path Nursing Home in Duxbury, where she gave Eucharist and participated in daily Mass. She would often visit homebound people as well. Irene truly loved her family. She was a hostess for many holidays and other celebrations. Irene loved the beach and her town of Duxbury. She was an avid sports fan; her favorite team was the New England Patriots. Irene was the beloved wife of the late George T. Canavan; loving mother of Greg Canavan of Norton and Anne Holton & her husband Doug of Plymouth; cherished Mimi of Samantha Holton; dear sister of Rita O'Donnell & her husband Jim of Berlin, NH and brother Raymond Halle and companion Lee Page of Shelburne, NH; dear sisters-in-law Marie Canavan, Maureen Canavan and Mary Ellen Scott. She is also survived by an aunt, an uncle, many dear nieces, nephews and cousins. Visiting hours at the Shepherd Funeral Home, 216 Main Street, (Route 106), Kingston, on Monday, November 24, 2014, from 4:00-8:00 PM. Funeral services at the Shepherd Funeral Home, Kingston, on Tuesday, November 25, 2014, at 9:00 AM, followed by her funeral Mass at the Holy Family Church, 601 Tremont Street, Duxbury, at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow at the Mayflower Cemetery, 774 Tremont Street, Duxbury. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Irene's memory may be made to Cranberry Hospice, 36 Cordage Park Circle, Suite 326, Plymouth, MA 02360.
