Mr.Harris W. Nichols, 88, of 90 West Village Road, West Milan, NH passed away on June 23, 2010 at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough, ME. He was born in West Milan on March 11, 1922, the son of Willie B. and Celia E. (Peabody) Nichols, and was a lifelong resident of the area. Harris graduated from Berlin High School. He was a sergeant in the U.S. Army during WWII in Europe from 1942 - 1945. He was a member of the West Milan Methodist Church. He served as selectman in the Town of Milan for 27 years. Harris was a fisherman, hunter, and gun collector. In his later years he enjoyed working in his woodworking shop and spending time at his camp on Pike Pond. Harris was employed by the State of New Hampshire for 42 years. He worked for the NH Highway Department and for the Special Services Division as a Water Supply Technician, retiring in 1987. In 1989, Harris was named Sportsman of the Year by the Androscoggin Valley Fish & Game Association for his years of service to the North Country Sportsmen and to the Hunter Safety Program. In 1997, he published a book, Tales of An Outdoorsman, about growing up in northern New Hampshire. His wife of 60 years, Elaine, passed away in 2007. Members of the family include two daughters, Cynthia Rand and her husband James of Scarborough, ME and Kathleen Agrodnia and her husband Michael of Yarmouth, ME; three grandchildren, Aaron Agrodnia and his wife Marta, Amy (Rand) Demers and her husband Ken, Karen (Rand) Dow and her husband Scott; and six great-grandchildren, Sean, Abigail, Evelyn and Benjamin Agrodnia, Brady Demers and Lucy Dow. SERVICES: The funeral will be held on Tuesday morning, June 29, 2010 at 11:00 AM at the West Milan Methodist Church. Interment will follow in the Riverside Cemetery in West Milan. Relatives and friends may call at the Bryant Funeral Home, 180 Hillside Avenue, Berlin, NH on Monday afternoon and evening from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM.
