Mr. George M. Walker, 90, of Jones Creek Place, Chapel Hill, NC and formerly of Exeter, NH, passed away on Tuesday January 20, 2009 at his home. He was born in Gorham, NH on May 20, 1918 the son of John M. and Susie (Hammond) Walker. He graduated from Gorham High School in 1937 and had played basketball and baseball for Gorham High. He later played on baseball teams in Gorham for several years. He was a World War II Veteran of the US Army Air Corps, having served in the 3rd Division of the 8th Air Force and held the rank of Sgt. Major and was a member of the 486th Bomb Group He lived in Greenwich, CT from 1945-1964 and moved to Exeter, NH in 1964 where he was employed as a carpenter for the US Postal Service until his retirement in 1974 and also operated a garage door business in Exeter, NH. He was a member of the Fuller-Covey Post #2180 VFW in Exeter, NH and a member of the American Legion and VFW in Chapel Hill, North Carolina after moving there in 2006. Members of the family include his son John M. Walker, II and his Michaela of Chapel Hill, NC; his daughter Candice Mercier and husband Denis of Limoges, Ontario, Canada; 4 grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his wife Dorianna (LaChance) Walker. SERVICES: Funeral Services will be held on Monday January 26, 2009 at 10 AM at the Bryant Funeral Home, 1 Promenade St., Gorham, NH. Interment will be in the Holy Family Cemetery in Gorham. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday evening from 6 to 8 PM. Anyone who wishes may make a donation in his memory to a charity of ones choice.
