Ernest F Allain

Ernest "Ernie" F. Allain, 71, of Berlin NH passed away on September 30, 2018 after an extended period of failing health.



He was born in Berlin on February 14, 1947 to Ernest and Laura (Kelly) Allain. He was a lifelong resident of Berlin.



After graduating from Berlin High School Ernie enlisted in the United States Navy. During his service he served as a Captains Orderly aboard the USS Proteus. Following his honorary discharge from the Navy he returned to Berlin. Once back in Berlin Ernie married Susan (Therrien) Allain. Together they raised their two children.



Ernie worked for the City of Berlin for 37 years. He held positions with the public works and engineering departments. Throughout his career he continued to gain experience and training; obtaining the NH Department of Transportations Master Road Scholar certificate in 1996. He retired as the Public Works Director in 2008.



He was a long-time director in the Androscoggin Valley Fish & Game Association where he taught hunters safety for many years. In 2004 he was recognized by the AVF&G as their Sportsman of the Year.



Upon retirement he remained active in his community as a member of the city planning board. He also enjoyed golfing, camping, and spending time with his family and friends.



He was predeceased by his mother Laura Allain and wife Susan Allain.



He is survived by his father Ernest C. Allain, brother Peter Allain and his wife Sandy of Berlin, son Brian Allain of Bedford NH, daughter Holly Allain of Portland ME, fiance Lisa Fournier and her children Jen (Greg) ONeil and Randy Boucher, brother-in-law James Therrien of Gorham NH, 3 grandchildren Abigail, Olivia, and Owen.



Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, October 3rd from 5:00pm to 8:00pm and on Thursday, October 4th from 8:30am to 9:30am at Fleury-Patry Funeral Home, 72 High Street, Berlin, NH 03570



A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, October 4th at 10:00am at St. Anne Church of Good Shepherd Parish. Interment will follow at St. Kierans Cemetery.
