Elizabeth Goodwin

Elizabeth (Betty) Goodwin, 90, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday May 7, 2014 at Mineral Springs in North Conway, NH where she had resided for 13 months. Betty was born in Charleston, ME on July 15, 1923 the daughter of Fred and Marion (Peavey) Goodwin. She grew up in Grand Isle, ME and then resided in Fort Fairfield, ME for many years. During World War II, she worked for Hoods Creamery in Bangor. In 1961, she moved to Greenland, NH where she was employed by Star Market in Portsmouth and later in Manchester. Moving to Gorham in 2000, she was a resident of Birch Grove for 13 years. Betty loved to knit and kept her family and friends well supplied with beautiful sweaters and afghans. She also enjoyed making quilts for hospitalized babies. Known for her well-developed sense of humor, she will be sadly missed. Family includes her daughters Marion Santy and husband Marshall of Gorham, NH and Penny Power of York, ME; her son L. Arthur Goodwin of Newmarket, NH; 9 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brothers Lynwood, Fred and Kenneth Goodwin, a sister Joan Owen and her granddaughter Meaghan Santy. A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday May 15, 2014 at 2 PM at the Bryant Funeral Home, 1 Promenade St., Gorham, NH. Interment will follow in the Lary Cemetery in Gorham. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home from 1 to 2 PM, prior to the service. Donations in her memory may be made to St. Judes Children Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN, 38105.
