Dorothy G Nedeau

October 5, 1914 — November 13, 2014

Berlin, NH

Dorothy G (Sydleman) Nedeau passed away peacefully at St Vincent de Paul Nursing and Rehabilitation Center on Thursday, November 13, 2014. She was 100 years old.

Dorothy was born on October 5, 1914 in Bath ME. She was the daughter of George and Bessie (Tait) Sydleman.

Dot attended schools in Portland ME and Gorham NH graduating from Gorham High in 1933. She was married to Milton Nedeau for 38 years. Over the years she was employed by Guy Shorey Studios, Fisks Gift Shop, Welches Restaurant and the Gorham Information Booth.

Dorothy was grateful for the help she received from A.V. Home Care so each time she made a payment to them she always gave a little extra to use for someone else who may have needed the extra help. That is what inspired "Dorothy's Gift" which supports in-home care for people who do not meet eligibility criteria for state programs. "Dorothy's Gift" has thus evolved, a cookie jar of contributions used to help someone, anyone with a pressing need and no solution for today. Dorothy's Gift "buys" flexibility to address needs when they arise, a precious commodity in these days of red tape, wait periods and eligibility guidelines. Dorothy's Gift "buys" dignity, too, by enabling recipients to pay a small cost share calculated against what they can afford rather than actual dollar value of the service.

She loved her Red Sox, loved to travel and enjoyed lobster.

Besides her parents and husband, Milton, she is preceded in death by her brother Theodore Sydleman and her sisters Lois McComiskey, Eileen Frost and Margret "Peggy" Cyr.

She leaves behind nephews and nieces Charlene Thompson, Mary Ann McCunn, John and Sunny Hindley, Rodney and Robin Sabattus, Kathy Cyr, Brenda (Cyr) and Rick Fioretti, Dean and Sandra Cyr, Theresa Cyr, Janet Cyr and husband Danny Brown, and several great and great-great nieces and nephews.

A Chapel Service will be held on Monday, November 17, 2014 at 10:00 am at Fleury-Patry Funeral Home, 72 High Street, Berlin, NH 03570 In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Dorothy's Gift at A.V. Home Care Services, 795 Main Street, Berlin, NH 03570 for those who are in need.
