Colleen R. (Sweet) Goupil, 87, of Gorham, NH, passed away on Thursday, September 18, 2014 at the Coos County Nursing Home in Berlin.Born in Berlin, July 30, 1927, she was the daughter of Harry and Iris (Jangro) Sweet. She graduated from Berlin High School and the Golden School of Beauty Culture in Portland, Maine. After a year working in Portland, she returned to Berlin and married Roger Goupil on October 25, 1948.Colleen was a 4-H volunteer leader for the Liberty Park Club, an active member of the Brown School PTA and a co-chair of the annual Easter Seal Drive. She worked at the Granite State Division of Converse Rubber Co. in the stitching department for 18 years. Colleen spent many retirement years lovingly making cloth dolls, sculpted Santa dolls and teddy bears for family and friends. She also made dolls to sell at craft fairs. Colleen found pleasure in crafting with her daughters, dabbling in oil painting, and regularly attending class reunions. She was an excellent swimmer and swam often in her later years. She was an exceptional cook and took delight in cooking and baking for others. She prepared the most delicious Sunday dinners and made the best sweet rolls, a family favorite. Her homemade root beer and glazed donuts were always a special treat. While wintering in Florida, Colleen greatly enjoyed playing the maracas for Homestead's popular Four Season's Kitchen Band, a volunteer retirement band, performing for schools, nursing homes and hospitals. She was a lifelong dog lover and opened up her heart and home to several unwanted dogs. Her last adoptee and love was a Pekingese named Jazzy. Most of all, Colleen loved her family. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She treasured her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They were her pride and joy. Colleen leaves behind a legacy of love and caring. She will be sadly missed by family and friends. Family includes her two daughters, Jacqueline McCready and husband Richard (Magoo) of Milan, Donna Perry and husband Courtland of So. Hero, Vt.; five grandchildren, Courtland R. and Chad Perry, Melissa Chevarie, Stacey Adams and Shanna Goupil; six great-grandchildren, Caleb and Cameron Chevarie, Ty and Abby Adams, Courtland D. Perry, and Jamal Jackson; as well as many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband of 65 years, Roger R. Goupil, who died April 6, 2014; her son, Roger Goupil; sisters, Della Bernstsen and June Sutherland; and a brother, Paul Sweet. Relatives and friends may call at the Bryant Funeral Home, 180 Hillside Ave., Berlin on Friday evening from 7 to 9 PM. Interment will be in the New City Cemetery. Funeral services will be private.
